Discussion: reply to a quote with ONLY another quote

The idea: attempt a (somewhat) linear progression of quotes, one "leading" to the next (rather than just posting another that you like but that doesn't somehow link to the preceding quote).

I'll start with an intellectual quote from one of our world's greatest minds:

"When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity."

Albert Einstein

One possible response in the spirit of the thread could be:

"Everything happens to everybody sooner or later if there is time enough."

George Bernard Shaw

Or:

The expression a woman wears on her face is far more important than the clothes she wears on her back.

Dale Carnegie

Or...?

(Colored fonts are mine, only to help convey my concept of somewhat linear/linked)

The expression a woman wears on her face is far less important when she wears no clothes.

Better said.

Ah jeez, this is Sunday. I don't wanna work that hard.

BUT... I don't get it. The first 2 quotes refer to time while the last refers to a woman's expression. Are you saying given enough time all women's clothing shall come off?

No, the first quote is shown with two possible examples of responses by two different posters, their difference being the result of which words in the original quote prompted each of the two posters to post their quote.

To keep the "discussion" linear, the first of the two responses to the original post should be the post to be responded to and the second, later, post should be ignored.

The first quote:

"When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.",

could be responded to on the basis of "a nice girl"' e.g.,

The expression a woman wears on her face is far more important than the clothes she wears on her back.

Or, that same first quote:

"When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.",

could be responded to on the basis of "an hour seems like a minute", e.g.'

"Everything happens to everybody sooner or later if there is time enough."

Think "a nice girl" is to "a woman" as "an hour is to a second" is to "time enough".

If the first response to the original post:

"When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.",

had been:

"Throughout our courthip, Kenny told me that he had proof that Saddam Hussein was a threat because he possessed weapons of mass destruction. I told him, 'You had me at weapons.'"

Renee Zellweger,

then this would be the quote to build on and the other two quotes would be disregarded.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it would keep the thread cleaner if those posts that were posted before the poster saw they were beaten to the punch by another poster were deleted by the late poster.

This all might sound complicated but it's much easier to do than to explain.

Dorothy Parker, poet, on the martini:

I like to drink a Martini
But only two at the most.
Three I'm under the table,
Four I'm under the host.

I suppose that isn't a quote. Here's a favorite quote of mine:

"If a key opens many locks it is called a master key. If a lock can be opened by many keys it is considered a s*itty lock."

--Anonymous father advising his son on choosing the right woman.

All good stuff, but, back to the OP:

"The idea: attempt a (somewhat) linear progression of quotes, one "leading" to the next (rather than just posting another that you like but that doesn't somehow link to the preceding quote)."

For example:

My post in response:

"Illusions of grandeur are not the same as visions of greatness."

I'm sure Winston Churchill said something along those lines as probably did Shaw.

I'm dense. So if you quote something to do with parallel and linear, I could consider a quote about parking a car?

I haven't got this fingered out at all.

I know i'll get flamed for asking this, but yesterday i got new tires (s-03). Last night, i washed my car. You guys don't think this might have caused my wreck, do you? I know armor all is a little slick but i wonder if there was something else wrong with the tires also, or something?
