Add my voice to those that say don't get started unless you are clinically depressed. And even then only if you are so depressed as to be a shut in.
Besides...you have us!

One more vote to stay away from antidepressants.

I've had lots of pain in my feet for several years and was finally diagnosed with neuropathy last year. The nerves are basically shot and feel like I'm walking on broken glass barefoot.

There is no sure cure for worn out feet other than certain meds. Those meds are antidepressants that have a side effect that (supposedly) helps with nerve damage in the feet.

Neurontin, Meloxicam, Nortriptaline, Cymbalta and Lyrica. I've tried them all.

The side effects about killed me.....and did not help my feet at all!

Everything from not being able to concentrate for more than 15 seconds at a time and extreme short term memory, hallucinations, chest pains, severe constipation and erectile disfunction. F THAT! NO MORE DRUGS!

I was only slightly depressed because of my painful feet, but all the side effects from the drugs caused way more depression. I've just tried to live with the pain and accept the fact I can't to do what I used to do.

If you don't drink, you need to start. If you do drink then you need to drink more.

Stay away from antidepressants and get the wifie drinking as well.

Agree with all that has been said. I was on them a few years ago. While it does take away to feelings of hopelessness and despair they also take away all other emotions and drives as well.

Soma for the ages.

I don't know your life but I do know that life is a series of incredible experiences that travel in waves. Peaks and valleys.

I guess if you want be a flat lander than the drugs work - but if you want to experience the peaks then sans pills.

AntiDepressants are for clinical depression. Having a family member die is a terribly tragic event but it is not clinical depression.

Spoken from someone that has had clinical depression.
I agree, except I disagree that someone dying at 90+ years old is a terrible tragedy.

It's of course sad, but it's also life. If you get past 90 you're getting more than most.
My guess is when their time comes you'll be be ok.

What's been said.

Any anti-depressant is just that. It's for pulling clinically depressed people up. It's not a "happy pill" for when life makes you sad. You don't use it just to feel better. Doesn't work that way.

It really sounds to me like you are fine. However your wife knows you better than any of us. If she is concerned, perhaps you should talk to your Dr.

If you take those HAPPY PILLS long enugh the hard wiring of your Brain changes. If you go to Talk Thearpy long enugh the hard wiring in your brain changes....

Some sessions with a couselor over a period of time would be helpfull. Most people go into Thearpy to help them with a crisis or major event in their lives like a death of a loved one. These session may last for a few months to several years, then there are those who desire what one can call growth through self awareness. This kind of change takes about 7 years of Thearpy...and by choice becomes a life time pursuit..

As stated life is a series of highs and lows. When we love someone and lose them the feeling of loss can be nearly overwhelming. I am of the not so humble opinion that we have to ride the emotion fully over time in order to resolve the issue before we are ready to move on. If we do not resolve the issue it will come back and bite you at some time in the future.

Late last August I was with my dog Zoey as they put her down after a month long illness, from the Vets office I went over to my dying of cancer friends house to be with her. One week to the day I held my friends hand as she died. She had been home hospiced until the day she died, going into the Hospice that day was like a veteran soldier marching into battle, I knew exactly what to expect because it was not my first rodeo, and there was no emotion just grim determination of doing what was needed for a friend By being there for her right up to the line between life and death. In that time I told her that I loved her and a few other things finally saying to her, "Sandy you do what you need to do." Her breathing just became slower and more infrequent and within several moments she was gone. The total time I was with her was about 20 minutes.

Upon leaving the Priest who was there came up and talked to me, I told him, "That the only thing that has any meaning in life is our ability to love, and that this was not my first rodeo that I had been there for both my Mother and Father when they passed away" He started to cry.

Now I have a friend of 20 plus years who is 75 that has to go into the hospital to have a proceedure on his heart and that he is given a 50/50 chance...He says, "Better to have it done than to live this way or have a stroke." And I have another friend of 40 years who after several calls has not gotten back to me..not knowing is worrysome. Life is full of loss if we live long enough and then eventually somone will lose us.

Which ones?

Ironic that you can't get your class 3 medical if you are on anti-depressants. Better to be depressed and suicidal while you're flying. I have a Danish friend who applied to be an au pair. She honestly said she went to a see a counselor when she was 15. They turned her down.
Lesson is if you DO seek counseling or take anti-depressants, don't tell anyone. They would rather have untreated disturbed people than those who are taking care of themselves.

I'm seeing my Dr. in a week to have my regular blood work check... I will chat with him and he will confirm what you all have told me then I will have 'the talk' with my wife.

Thanks again
What ''the talk'' ? You let her decorate the house. You and your doctor decide about what's right for your mind. ''The doctor says no, and I agree.'' is as far as it should go. No is no, with no explanations.

Do you want to say no 100 times, or do you want to have multiple conversations that have no bearing on YOUR decision ?

People who don't grieve get stuck. People who do drugs have to deal with everything they didn't deal with after they quit. IF they quit.
