06-07 BMW 650 I convertible--Thoughts?

My wife saw one the other day and thought it was cute.

I looked on the BMW forums here, but they are pretty much dead.

Any info would be appreciated if you know anything about them....Thanks

Very, very complicated cars IIRC... Lots of power though! Try to find an M6

An M6 is a whole 'nother level of painful ass-reaming of your bank acct., and like most AMG Benzes, they are not really "fun cars" IMO. I would only recommend an out-of-warranty M6 to someone I really hated.

You'd be better off with a 645ci.

I saw one for sale a few weeks ago. Black on black, 50,000 miles, 38,000 dollars or best offer. Gorgeous car....would touch it with a ten foot pole!

"Would touch it with a ten foot pole"? Why? Just to see what happens?

Man, these are tempting. Nice cruisers. But there is a reason they are cheap ...

The 645's use basically the same 4.4lt V8 used in the E39's and Range Rovers. Fairly easy to maintain. Jobs such as chain guides etc are rather time consuming but not beyond the mechanically minded diy'er. When my wife tires of her 540 e39 I reckon the 645 will be the next car for her. Although she's had the 540 for about 5 years and still loves it.

Is the 645 a completely different engine?

It's down about 40hp to the 650 engine.

No need for an M6 for the wife or the headaches.

The Bimmer link is all about e36 and such, these are e63/64.

It is NOT the same V8 as in the range rovers and the E39. Google "N62 coolant pipe" to see what you are in for.

I believe the e39 used the m62 V8, while the e63 cars (645 and 650) both used the n62, in slightly different forms.

E39 never shared an engine with the 6 series.

That's why I said 'basically'.

There is a much chepaer solution than having the dealer do it.
