The local low rider car show (with intruders)

I decided to take some phone pics today. I never take pics at car shows. Everyone does that. People must have 1000's of pics they never look at 2wice. That's what happens to me. But yet today, I took some and they aren't your usual pics.

This was just around the corner as I was leaving:

There was one really out of place car there — a '65 356 SC with chrome plated 6 inch Fuchs. I didn't snap it because...

it had chrome plated Fuchs.

Yes indeed, very cool. Being a L.A. boy, I especially loved the "Felix Chevrolet" emblem on the glove box.

Isn't that speaker supposed to go on the inside of the car?

Thanks for sharing - much easier to look at this from home than having to go to a car show at o-dark thirty.

Great pics!

They don't make 'em like they used to!

Good to see some survivors!

Yes, he had that on the outside and I'm thinking that he didn't think anyone under the age of 60 would know what it was turned around correctly.

Well, considering the average of the crowd (especially the car owners), that would not have been a problem.

That sorta brings around the question, who will own these cars in 20 years? I know I didn't see 5 people under the age of 40. This is a different culture. No woodies, no Euro and no vans, SUV's or PT Cruisers. Evenly divided between sleds and rods. No East L.A. influence at all. It was what you might call a white car show. In fact, I saw ONE amp in a truck. This is not your typical sub woofer group.

Most had 50K worth of work, chrome and paint. A few cost a bit more than that, I'm sure. Definitely a dying breed that will hang on to these cars. This is why I make this show every year. Aside from the fact that it's free.

Not if you are sitting in lawn chairs next to the car

I bet in the not too distant future you will see very nice custom cars for very inexpensive prices.

Some nice photos Zeke.
But I dont like all the stuffed animals in the cars and items like that drive-in food tray hanging on the window of that T-Bird.
That crap is so overdone at some car shows. It may have been "cute" at one time.
I say just show the car.

I've even seen photos of cars with the speaker displayed just like that and an old speaker post beside the car with the cord going over to the speaker. Duh.

Cool old cars.

I would love to have a crystal ball and see what is at a car show in 2073. In 60 years how many of today's average man cars will be at car shows. I am sure a 918 will be considered a quaint old car but how many Toyotas or Hyundais will be on display.

Probably quite a few...these are the cars that kids are growing up with today. Oldsters grew up with '50s & '60s cars and look back on them with fondness now, just like some guy 40 years from now will look back on that Subi STI he had as a kid.
On the other hand, car shows of this type may disappear all together. It seems that a significant number of today's kids aren't all that interested in cars, or even in getting a driver's license. Used to be that having a car represented freedom to a kid. Nowadays, they're all hooked up to social media and are texting & tweeting non-stop. Why bother driving over to a friend's house when you can talk, text & game with them while sitting on the couch watching TV and chugging Red Bulls.
On the other hand, car shows of the future may just consist of large iPAD-like devices sitting out on the grass with photos of cars on them. Or why even make an effort to get out of bed and go the park...just go on-line and search out a virtual car show to "attend".

Zeke, I'm trying to ID the location... do you mind revealing it of is it a secret?

RE: Woodies, we have a woodie show here in San Pedro once a year... unfortunately it is not advertised very well... as was the VW show they had years back, one Saturday morning I was on my way to work and there were hundreds of old VW's parking on the grass in the park.

We have a woodie show here too. It always attracts a lot of nice examples and is very well attended.
