Next time you are in Fredericksburg, TX

Plan on spending 4-5 hours in the National Museum of the Pacific War. Started out 40+ years ago as a museum dedicated to Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz and evolved into a very good museum dedicated entirely to the war in the Pacific.

National Museum of the Pacific War

If you visit this museum and the National WWII museum in New Orleans, you will have seen a very good retrospective of WWII from the US point of view.

Well worth it the next time you're in Fredericksburg....

Definitely! We run a leadership course at the museum to teach new leaders how to be the best they can be.

Absolutely. Saturday for lunch: couple of Brats with Kraut and a big side of German style potato salad. All washed down with a schooner of a local micro-breweries red ale...

Ditto... great food.... and bier.

The 'Hill Country' in Texas is steeped in German history. They settled the area.

Thanks for the heads-up...I saw that that blasting thru in April when towing out to race @ COTA w/ PCA. Next weekend I move my daughter to Austin for school. She and mom are flying out...I'm taking her clothes, etc and her Audi. I think I'll start on Friday to make it there for the tour. Nice way to break up the drive!

When I was stationed in San Antonio we used to go to Fredericksburg fairly often. Remember if you are in Fredericksburg to stop by Luckenbach as well. I took my dad to the Nimitz World War II museum on Veterans Day three years ago. It was an awesome turnout of World War II veterans which are thinning out by the thousands monthly.

There was an old Mexican guy in El Paso that made some sweet boots too. He has to be dead by now.

Red, the Celis brewery is pretty all right too. Better before they put a limit on how much beer they would give you.

Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz was born/raised in Fredericksburg. His family were some of the original settlers of the town and owned the Nimitz hotel which was the original museum and just about him and his family. When they started the museum, Nimitz insisted it should be about all those who served in the Pacific theatre, not just about him.

I hope she is attending St. Edwards. UT is a junior college with higher accolades than deserved, a repository for ones with lesser intellectual capacity.

Too bad the Stonewall Meat Market will be closed during your travels, as it is the best processor of harvested meat in the state. You might try Opa's in freddie's town, but I always choose to cruise on past. The Hill Country Cupboard in Johnson City is a nice place to stop.

You would not believe the number of great breweries all over Texas. Lone Pint in Magnolia is a new favorite. If you're over out here, try the "Yellow Rose"
