Gear up landing at local airport ('60 Piper PA-24)

Good job, excellent result. Turns out it had an expired registration, though. Small in-town airport.

Reasonably happy ending.

A couple of years ago the FAA required all aircraft to be re-registered which was no big deal, obviously the owner must have forgotten.

There was one at our local airport a few months ago. A couple of us were flying to a local airport for lunch and heard the guy call and say his gear wouldn't go down. We had lunch and went back to watch him land, he was burning off fuel first so we had plenty of time. It was really a non event. He just landed on his belly and skidded a ways. It was a 172rg. The part I liked was it was a rental from the local flight school and the owner was wanting him to kill the engine to keep from damaging the prop and engine. The guy called back saying he didn't really care what happened to the engine and was keeping control all the way to the ground. He said it in a more colorful way though.

As far as emergency landing go that airport was pretty good for the size of the plane. The airport is small, very little air traffic and emergency crews very close.
