1953 mg td

What's an all original, 51,973 miles, reputably rebuilt motor 5K ago, resprayed, in good to excellent condition worth?

Sorry, no pics. It's red/tan with softtop and toneau cover. Don't know if side windows are with it but it has the little adjustable glass wings on both sides of the windscreen.

Nightmare or wetdream?

Depends on the condition, side curtains can be made easily.

Not sure but I think the 53 was a MGTF. Does it have wire wheels?

'53 was still TD. TF started in 1954 with the 1250, ended in 1955 with the 1500. I owned a 1250.

Those look like really cool cars for little money.

No wires. '53 was the first year of left-hand drive, correct? Eng # XPAG-TP2-23009. He's asking $18,900, IIRC.

Really nice but no where near pristine shape. Some bubbles near driving light on right fender. Interior really nice but does look its age, being leather. Panel under dash is warped and the dash looks like some kind of leather or heavy fabric. Were the body panel supports still wood in these cars?

But at least it leaks.

Yes! Through the 1955 TF 1500. The MGA was the first all metal.

I had a '50 LHD and it had lots of wood. Doors were wood with a skin. The area by the gas tank was all plywood as were the floors. Wood in the cowel.

I also noticed a rubber seal between the cowl and windscreen. Did these windscreens fold flat?

I don't remember them "folding" like a Jeep. But they did come off readily. I think the rubber was to just join the frame to the cowel and prevent leaks.

That's what it looked lie to me, Zeke; a water seal. Would be cool to take the screen off and drive around with gogles and that dorky leather helmet you always see in pics of old open cockpit bi-planes Snoopy and Red Baron Style! Trench coat and scarf to boot.

Did these cars have a heater of any functionality? I know the tops and sides were once described as diabolical imitations of protection from the elements.

On the TF the windshield stanchions remained erect while the windshield rotated to an almost flat position after loosening the appropriate knobs on the stanchions. I'm pretty sure the TD did the same.

I could probably dig thru a few boxes in my garage and find a magazine or two with a review of them from when they were new....

really need to organize it all and sell 'em....

There was a TD or a TF for sale at C&C last saturday. Looked pretty good during a cursory once over, but I didn't look too hard, honestly, except for the basics, I don't really know what to look for....., He wanted 17five.

Chrome-plated T-bolts, not a knob.

Well, it's been awhile. I had the '50 TD and a '36 SA saloon, the only 6 cyl MG made.

An argument could be made for the MGC...

My father has a 53 TD Mark II. It is a great car. I recommend going for it.
