Stopping the Aging Process?

I think in less than 20 years this will be well understood...but is it something we really want to do?

Is what something we really want to do?

Flieger 08-16-2013 07:54 PM

Did you view the link? Turning off aging (once you reach your prime).

UconnTim97 08-16-2013 08:02 PM

This is how we introduce vampires!

sc_rufctr 08-16-2013 08:04 PM

That would be cool but we'd have a whole bunch of problems. I would imagine it's a bit like the new problems you'd have if you won the lottery.

All good mind you... I'd like to have both. ;)

BTW: If the current accident rate stayed the same and we cured ageing the average person would live for about 600 years.

DARISC 08-16-2013 08:09 PM

Think 'infestation'.

I would liked to have stayed at 55 and aged slowly henceforth. You can't stop a 55 YO bent on doing anything.

Sounds quite surreal.
Like Longinus that had stabbed Jesus in his side while being on the Cross.
He was to be Damned to live for all eternity.
Like an Insomniac that was never allowed to sleep.
How many years doe's one need to live and then call it an end?

dewolf 08-16-2013 08:33 PM

I would love it. Imagine the knowledge you could acquire.

Imagine how crowded it would get.

Hey, I'm 70. If I could have remained, say, 35, I'd be down with this. But it's way too late for me.

porsche4life 08-16-2013 09:17 PM

I wouldn't mind it in an Old Mans War sort of way.... Turn 75 and you get a new, badass body.

Yes that would be something.
But People are not just slight computers.
They have emotions.
Decades upon decades learning knowledge...but this includes decades of EMOTION.
Head Verses Heart!
How much can one take of Happiness-Sadness-Anger-Fear-Worry?
That is a major fundamental !
When has a body/mind and person had enough?
Might be better for life elongation being a Lizard. Getting older and just thinking about the now.
The R part of our brain.

Pssshhh. That's old news. I've been 27 for the last 26 years. I've got a ways to go before I join Robert Johnson, Janis and Jimi.

Imagine if you were the only one. Or one of a handful.
Imagine the sadness you would have from watching everyone you love grow old and die.

For me I'd like to be 28 forever. Whoo, girls were sooo available. Phenomenal energy levels, hugely confident.

Just finished an interesing book (Physics of the Future) by Kaku. He touched on this as already tested and in development via nano-technology. Imagine microscopic "computers" that float around in your bloodstream programmed to identify various characteristics (early cancer growth for example) in cells and tissue. Once identified, anhialate or repair upon contact without you ever knowing.

The next 50-100 years will make the last 100 years look like complete stagnation. Our kids are in for some very cool technological advancement.

Great but I want to be around for it. Hope they get a breakthrough soon.

After saving the galaxy from the Sith, Luke Skywalker goes on to save the galaxy from nano computers!
