Terrible, he is one of my favorites

Canadian Railroad Trilogy is, IMHO, one of the greatest folk songs ever created. Its history of its creation and the song . . . you can see Canada in your minds eye through his singing. You can feel what it was, who the men were and the achievement. It is beautiful.

RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

Saw him live in Oct 22. It was a great show and he played all of his hits. He used a puffer between songs as he had emphysema. He told a story how he had wrote a couple of songs for Elvis Presley and had invited him to one of his shows in Buffalo. So he was back stage waiting to meeting him after the show and the Colonel came over and told him that Elvis had "left the building". It got a good laugh, RIP Mr. Lightfoot.

But the feeling's gone

And I just can't get it back

Him and Don McLean always did it for me with the lyrics

A true Icon. He's there with Dylan, Kristofferson, Townes and Billy Joe Shaver as far as songwriters go.

RIP Gord, thanks for the tunes....

I always liked this arrangement of COTS. Quite a lineup of bluegrass musicians here, making this Gordon Lightfoot song come alive.

RIP Gordon (and Tony)

We had tickets for a concert in Halifax when the news came he was in hospital to repair the abdominal aneurysm. A couple of years later, we got seats for his next concert in the city. Gordon walked onto the stage to thunderous applause and said, "Sorry I'm late!"

"I've been all around the world. How I long to see you smile.
There's a shadow on the moon and the waters here below
Do not shine the way they should,
And I love you, just in case you didn't know."

Goodbye Gordon. You will not be forgotten.

Saw him twice in the last (4) years with last years' show being better than the previous. Guy was a musical genius. Highly recommend the 2019 documentary "If You Could Read My Mind". RIP Mr. Lightfoot.

Sad that he's gone, but not unexpected. The last few times I saw him he seemed to be declining. I think I first saw him in 1969 or 1970 at Ohio State after I bought "Lightfoot!" and was blown away. The last time was in 2016 or 17 in Dayton. We heard him say sort of under his breath to one of his band mates, "I think I may have a Trilogy in me tonight." We weren't supposed to hear it, but we did and the crowd went crazy, everyone on their feet applauding. But his voice was really weak and the concert ended without him singing it.
He wrote so many great songs. His talent was a tremendous gift to us. Thank you Gordon, you will live forever in your songs.

I probably have 50 songs on my "Lightfoot" playlist and I'll be listening to them all day. The "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is NOT on the list. Never liked that song.

A few years ago, I was hanging out at our local general aviation airport, about to fly out for Saturday breakfast when Mr Lightfoot walked in after playing a gig the night before.

Had a two or three minute conversation with him.
Nicest guy on the planet.
No aura of celebrity, just a normal guy, catching his flight home.
