What would you pay for this tractor?
![]() I realize there is no reference scale. The rear wheels are 24" and it has about 10 hp - it's a large garden tractor.

I just went to the annual Buckley Old Engine and Thresher Show. I swear I saw one of those things.
I did check out a 1936 (can't recall the make/model) four cylinder gasoline tractor. The engine was about the same size as a new Kubota 3 cylinder diesel (i.e. tiny). The Kubota diesel generates 23hp the Farmall powered out at a whopping 9hp! Waitaminit. I didn't see one of those things, I saw 2! They were joined together in line by some sort of omni-directional articulating mechanism. Suppose I shoulda checked it out further. |

Looks sorta like a Allis Chalmers model G, without the cultivators.
...but with the engine between the axles. ...and with a steering tiller instead of a wheel. ...and without the orange paint... On second thought, that doesn't look much like a G at all.

The tractor is a John Deere EX101. They made five experimental units before deciding not to produce the thing and this is the only one known to exist.
Crowbob, tractor horsepower was reported differently back in the 1930s. Two horsepower measurements were reported, and a lot of tractors were simply referred to by their horsepower figures and didn't have a name. An Oliver 18-27, for instance had 18 pulling horsepower and 27 engine horsepower. Plus, engines ran at about half the speed they do now, so it took a lot of engine to put out a little power. BTW I was scheduled to be a the Buckley show but family issues caused me to cancel.

Doesn't look safe. Looks like if you hit a stump, or a rock, you take a tiller to the boys.

Well small world, Patrick! Interesting bunch of people and machinery in Buckley. Now having learned there were only 5 experimental protypes ever built the machine I saw musta been some other strange-looking contraption. There were lots of 'em!

I'm sure someone said something similar when he paid $45,000 for it 20 years ago.

Probably has to pay tax on $220K... Of course, the seller's commission can be deduced.

speaking of tractors, how hard would it be to find a lambo or porsche tractor and are they expensive?

Refraining from commenting on the value of that Deere but the buyer was probably some 'corporate farmer' executive who reaped well from some gov. sub'd E-85 production with excess to blow
![]() Other JD - I was at a county fair this Sunday and this fellow's collection was operating, churning homemade ice-cream! Outstanding. Took some video. Supposably was the owners third fair making it. Over restored... indeed and the best most fun display I've seen. ![]() ![]()
