Anyone here go to Pancho Barnes Ed.Airforce base BBQ?
Hi.
I am a great fan of aviation history. I so admire with absolute interest in Pancho Barnes and the era. Anyone on the list have 'some what relations ' or old family memories of this Fantastic Gal?

I was there in 91. with my g.friend. Unfortunately we got their driving from L.A at the wrong time for any tours.
Anyway I went in as far as I could. I sat on the hood of the rental for at least an hour and let my mind go. I picked up a good chunk of clay and brought it home with me. I keep it in a glass bowl and holder that I see everyday. This was also the year I met Wally Schirra at the Sandiego Air/Space museum by fluke. It is something and someone , I will never forget.

Just watched a documentary on Poncho on Netflix. She was quite a character.

Check out Chuck Yeager's book - Yeager. She gets more than an 'honourable mention" as she was a central character in the lives of some of the most famous test pilots of the day.
Cheers JB

Not to mention, the Happy Bottom Riding Club is covered in Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff.

It is not every year. You need to check the website. I don't know when the next one is.

Whenever I am driving out to Willow Springs I always wonder if the building where the vet treated Chuck Yeager's broken ribs is still there. Anyone know?

Will there be a barbecue this year, 2013, for Pancho Barnes?
