My neighbor invited me to go kayaking with him a couple of weekends ago (aka "drive the other car"), and we floated down the Fox River from Geneva to Aurora, Il . Sunny, 70 degrees, could not have been better. Ended up pulling out next to Charlie F'ing Zine, the patron saint of Fox Valley outdoor sports, and probably the guy responsible for the beautiful canoe chute next to the Casino (and the infamous 'Martini Bar') now. The Patron Saint of everything outdoors in Aurora.

Guys, the ones with the ocean kayaks, how are you transporting them?

Here's my issue, I traded my Cayenne in on a pickup and I put a backflip on the pickup. There is racks that go with the backflip but they don't have good kayak mounts. I still gave my Yakima racks and rollers which I'd like to use, but I would have to get new uprights which would mean taking off the backflip and mounting hardware every time I want to use my kayaks.

I really want the cover on as well as having kayak mounts...or sell everything and get a cap and new kayak mounts, but I really don't want to do that.

What say ye?

Yakima makes adapters for factory areo bars called mighty mounts or something like that. Try Racks Unlimited. They probably have them. Have a look and see if they will work for your application.

I'm heading down tomorrow to buy this! Sunday morning I'll be outside Ventura Harbor heading to C Street for some swell riding and Eskimo roll practice. A three year old Current Designs Caribou S with retractable skeg. :D

I fabricated what is essentially a large T with hull cradles that plugs into my trailer hitch to support the back of my boat and a pair of Thule cradles on the luggage rack on the cab for the front. I can't drop my tailgate but it would not interfere with a bed cover if I had one.

Timely thread. does anyone ever need to tow anything behind a kayak? My friend fishes from his kayak and wishes he could tow a mini kayak trailer to hold stuff like his tackle box. http://lifehealthus.com/image/images/97.gif
