I did a quick search, but did not find a Show your Kayak thread.

Here are two of my kayaks. I'm very fond of the old out of business Walden Kayaks. I have 2 Walden Vistas, a Walden Passage, and a Perception Carolina. A P&H Cetus is on my wish list.

great thread, I in the process of researching about kayak's as I think I need one in my life

Subscribing to this thread as I'll be moving to a house that sits on Inverness Ridge overlooking Tomales Bay and Pt. Reyes (CA) and I see a kayak in my future. :)

Timely thread. does anyone ever need to tow anything behind a kayak? My friend fishes from his kayak and wishes he could tow a mini kayak trailer to hold stuff like his tackle box.

I don't know about towing something like that, Shaun. I always think that being tied to something else in the water would create more problems in rough weather than it's worth.

There are some very nice sit on top fishing kayaks available. Some have ample space to put your gear and some you can even stand in!

I have two Necky Manitou II's, they are about 16' 75lbs each, and I can take the whole family out or position the rear seat in the middle for self paddling.

My Baby, bought in 1992. Third kayak in over forty years of paddling: First was a Phoenix Slipper, then a Hollowform River Chaser, then this Perception. We have been everywhere, surf and river. I was at Great Falls a week ago after work.

All pics taken today. The white one is a Kaskazi from NZ, the blue a Wilderness Systems boat. My neighbor goes through kayaks at a high rate...I pick the leftovers.

Just ending a week w/ our kayaks at Lake Tahoe. No pics of kayaks on my iPhone, and I can't snap one to post because I just checked them with Southwest Airlines.

We have two Feathercraft K-1 boats. Have been paddling them since 1996. Great boats, still look nearly new and have held their value too.

Oh, I agree on not towing anything behind a kayak. With a following sea, you could get pretty crossed up, then find yourself beam-on to the waves and with the boat destabilized by the pull of the "trailer". Worst case, you'd have to choose between paddling into the waves, or abandoning the trailer.

Wow, a perception Dancer. When I lived in Boise, I was fairly well acquainted with Rob Lesser, who was a well-known river kayaker, and the perception rep.
I tried it a few times, but frankly, I've never been a huge fan of water sports, and after many rolling lessons, we came to the conclusion that there were other athletic pursuits that suited me better. (Gotta be able to do the eskimo roll if you wanna seek river fun) I really liked the way that you adjusted the boat to fit you so you were sort of wearing it, though.

Clearly a lot of experienced kayakers here. So, a question....how dangerous is kayaking? Any close calls? How does it compare to other outdoor adventure sports from a risk/danger perspective? Say, vs mountain biking? dirt bikes/trail riding? scuba diving?

I have always wanted to try it, but a good friend of mine gave it up after a scare involving being upside down wedged into a rock in fast water. Is that kind of thing common?

I have been out in weather/conditions that had scared me and taken almost all I had to get the boat safely back to the beach.
I try to be careful and dress to the water conditions not the weather. Always wear a PFD.
If you are thinking getting a sea kayak, it isn't hard to get into trouble but you have to try a bit.
Sea Kayaker Magazine has a book published called "Deep Trouble". Good read for new kayakers. I think of its content on occasion when I paddle. There are stories of much more experienced paddlers than me getting into some pretty horrible trouble. Most stories revolve around the inexperienced or under prepared.

Same kayak I had, only in red. Tried a regular dancer and I felt like a Dreadnaught in the water. The XT made all the difference.
