I need to cover up a pipe cleanout in a wall...
Some genius put a pipe cleanout in a room that can serve as either the living room (if the house is used as a duplex) or as it is now, as the master bedroom.
I need to make this look acceptable by covering it up with a wooden medallion or something, or running a strip of board up the wall or... (fill in your ideas here). Here is what it looks like - note that is pretty low on the wall, which makes me think that a wooden emblem or medallion or something would look odd at knee ht. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1377640237.jpg It seems like a wooden emblem would be easiest if I can figure out what terms to plug into Google and find one - it would need to be hollowed out on the rear side.. ideas? |

They had tempers, used to punch and kick walls. There were a lot of small 4x4 pictures hung all over the house in really weird places. Put a piece of furniture in front of it. |
thx for the quick reply - furniture cannot be placed there as that would block access to a closet
|
Tapestry?
|
Can you put a potted floor plant in front of it?
|
look for the same size thread plug with a female socket head and fill with plaster to hide

I had to laugh at this. It's the 3rd post I have replied on this thread. This is the only one that posted and the previous img links to the female caps looked good to me. Fokk it. I'm done. |
interesting idea - I am certain I do not have the skill to match the texture tho...
plant sticks out too far; like furniture - whatever is done it must be thin |
I guess you could one of those smoothly rounded PVC pipe caps. Cut it down to a low profile as possible. Glue to wall, paint to match.
Done. http://www.pvcpipechina.com/product/2-6-2b.jpg |

Is it close to the bed?
Thinking, something that would be convenient to have there... What about a light dimming switch or air-conditioning thermostat? Intercom? Security system override? |
I think a cap screw, (think of the reverse of what you have here) with an inset hex would be the best way you can go without re-routing that pipe.
|
You can just take the cap out, turn it around and screw it in then plaster over it
|
Full length mirror or a large framed print.
|
Thx for the good suggestions, everyone - I think I will have a shot at a filled & painted hex head plug, then maybe cover it with a tapestry or mirror as per the suggestions.
|
Turn the cap around as suggested, then use a small HVAC grill or similar to cover it. Should you need access to it, it's easy to find. Might cost $5 total.

Here is an idea, Access Door (6 in. x 9 in.) - Sporty's Tool Shop
However, not sure it will work with your existing application. |

Take some measurements as to its location and write it in the closet...... |

why would you start your thread off as "some genius put this cleanout"?
Are you saying that the plumber was an idiot for putting it there? the idiot was the guy who framed in the room Just get a recessed plug to fit and be done with it |
