Cussed out a Microsoft "support tech" Today

Word for Smack (mac) destroyed all my Autotext & AutoCorrect entries - hundreds of them

Microslop wants me to pay (again) for support to fix errors in their product

I wish I knew Indian so I could uses some of his own swear words at him - but the phone connection was so bad he couldn't hear me anyway.

I still have a lot of stock in MSFT, but this is no way to increase shareholder value.

:mad::mad::mad: I'm in a joebobbie mood now!

I would think you were a man that lived in back up city.

id10t 08-30-2013 04:54 PM

Whenever I hear a guy with a tie say "There isn't any support if you use open source software!" I usually reply with "When is the last time you got support from Microsoft for a true technical issue?". And I usually get the goldfish out of water look from 'em.

Backups of your configs? Great idea. What about when you *must* upgrade to a cloud based system like Office 365?

Good luck...

I about threw out everything related to Win 95. I don't think so and certainly not 98SE. Now I might not be able to communicate with the cloud or anyone else for that matter, but I'll understand what I'm doing. Seems to me that all music and video files are just as workable.

Hummmm, the only true support I ever got when I was a DBA was either from Oracle ($100k a year) or SAP (about the same). Hummmmmmmmmm backups......

I have a Macbook Pro.........in order to "view" my shop cameras from home I needed to acquire Windows Parallels. So I did....$80.00.

After about 3 months of "parallels" taking over my Macbook, I finally had my Daughter help me "rid" my Macbook of this stupid "parallels software.

Virtual Box from Oracle.

Not quite the bells and whistles of Parallels (which I stopped using ages ago) or VM Wares Fusion ($50 and better than Parallels) but it is free and works very well.

Everyone is always preaching: Get a mac! You can still run Windows software...

If Mac had more software availability and was less proprietary they would get a lot more customers (a reasonable price wouldn't hurt either).

Yes but... It's been a long time since there was any windows software I really wanted that wasn't available on a Mac. There probably is something really cool out there that I am missing but I don't really care. My system always works and I understand it. That has a lot of value.

Makes no sense at all, yelling at some poor Indian schmuck that's working the phone. Like it is his fault, or he is going to change something. Now your misery just spread around the world and you ruined another guy's day as well.

A reasonable price would help a lot with the other things. I use Macs and I love them. Used to have a PC for those few things I needed that were only available for Windows. God I hated that thing. It's been years since there was something I needed that wasn't available for Mac.

I challenge you to name just 1 piece of commercially available Windows software that the average consumer would want / use that is either a) not cross platform or b) does not have a comparable OS X alternative

I too would like to get a new BMW or Benz for the cost of a Hyundai.

There is no shortage of Windows PC's at the same price point as Macs but somehow it's only Macs that are overpriced.

I would say Quicken. I know that there I s Mac version, but from everything I have read about it, it sounds like garbage. I think Quicken alone is responsible for 50% of VMware/parallels sales.

IIRC the issue with Quicken was more that the database / output is not cross platform so if you are sending files to your accountant on a different platform requires converting it and stuff "gets lost in translation". Maybe they fixed that. Don't know, don't use Quicken.

Still, there are a dozen alternatives to Quicken which was my point.

I speak a bit of Hindi. My wife speaks Hindi, Haryanvi, Punjabi and bit of Gujarati.

Neither one of us speak 'Indian'. Were you speaking to a Cherokee tech support person? Navajo?

I use Quickbooks Pro on a PC at work primarily because my bookeeper understands it and has used it for 10 years. It is quality software but there are a dozen excellent alternatives to Quicken on a Mac platform that cover all the same bases.

Ever price a "gaming" laptop?

Most of our developers run MacBooks dual booting Mac and Win7. We have people in the building who are win-only but choose to run it on Mac hardware.

I have a new Levnovo tablet PC for testing. Was around $2K. It is a joke from a hardware perspective. Incredibly poor form and function as well as build quality.

Win8 is a joke of a different flavor...

How do you know the Indian guy was cussing you out? He might have been trying to order take out curry rice with yogurt or some other weird thing they eat.
