Then I give three examples of virtual - online dating, computer trading, and autotune. Then we do a live demo of auto tune, singing the chorus from "Killing Me Softly" with and without the effects. Then I talk about the need to find a balance and think of analog/digital as yin/yang, then we end with an analog musical conversation (perform "My Romance").

Might not make sense in the thumbnail but in 15 minutes (11 of talk, 4 of performance) it covers a lot of ground.

Ok... That's ridiculously cool. Can't wait for the video!

Ahhh . . . now you made me go learn something, Todd. Uncanny valley. I had to Google it.

I look forward to your talk. A very interesting topic.

I thought this was Ted. Sounds more like Mensa...

That is really great. I too had to look up "uncanny valley." Assumed it was a movie from the San Fernando valley.... :D

I was not familiar with TED, so I checked out their website. I was still unfamiliar. :)

Apparently a roving lecture series? At any rate, your talk/performance sounds like it was very entertaining and educational. I look forward to the video!

Awesome! Love it! Can't wait to see the video. you packed all of that in 15 minutes? :)

emcon5 10-07-2013 01:41 PM

So where is the video?

nostatic 10-07-2013 01:44 PM

Evidently some delay with the guy who is cutting it. I'm going to ping the organizers and see what is up. If worse comes to worse, I'll get the source and hack something together.

Somehow I missed this thread when it started. Just wanted to say congratulations for being there and tackling such an interesting topic. Will definitely watch/listen.

Awesome. Nostatic this is awesome man.

TED talks are awesome. My students in secondary school love them. Kids don't watch tv, really. They watch media on YouTube and TED and other sites. The TED series is always engaging.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-08-2013 04:26 AM

TED rocks.

So when do we get to see this thing? C'mon... Inquiring minds and all that...

Steve Carlton 10-08-2013 06:05 AM

I'm thinking it never happened...

It was all just a figment of Todd's imagination?

Todd gave a presentation in my Leadership & Executive Development Class on monday and we debriefed yesterday.

His work is pretty interesting, especially if you're a veteran or currently in the armed forces. His lesson was very relevant to team building and effectively working in teams in the business world.

I was pretty hooked on the presentation and it WAS NOT canned, he had made one specifically for our class, which was appreciated. Speaking of which, in this particular class (which has a long wait list, I was lucky to get it and am glad I did!), the other presenters are guys like Rick Carusso - west coast real estate developer, Jack Hollis - SVP of Toyota Motor Sales Marketing, and Blake Nordstrom - Nordstrom family, retail fashion department stores.

Anyway, here's the debrief slide (some of it won't make sense since it's very much in the context of the class and lessons), and thanks again for coming by Todd, I'll be looking for your Ted Talk when it comes out.

Was a very cool coincidence to run into Amir. Glad it was well received - I always like guest lecturing in that class. The "chaos" exercise is usually pretty interesting. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to do the "levitating tent pole" exercise. I always change up talks for a particular group and usually end up deviating from the plan anyway. No plan survives first contact.

As for the TEDx video, still waiting on the editor. Will post the link as soon as I get it. Am hoping there wasn't a tech snafu and I asked about getting source but TED has strict rules on when/how/why the video content is dealt with.
