Seems like the roughness between black and white, or zeros and ones, is being conquered with higher "resolution" made possible by more powerful computers. It seems only a matter of time before animations can be indistinguishable from originals. What's still needed now is the originality and creativity that the living things still provide. I wonder how quickly AI will be able to replace the original creative force. And when it gets good, I suspect we will really need to worry about the 'Skynet problem.'

Todd, that was a great lecture. It seems as though you are as comfortable in left brain mode as you are using the right brain.

A couple of summers ago we went on holiday to Niagara Falls. I had made the trip mix, as I usually do, and it contained Roberta Flack's Killing me Softly. After it was finished my son said why is she singing about Islam? My wife and I both looked at each other and said, "What did you say?" He said, "Yeah, that lady was singing about Killing me softly with Islam, why is she singing that?"

My wife and I about peed our pants.

One question I have is on the creepy valley. Just because we have the technology to do something, doesn't mean we should do it, right? Here's my context, up until now taking a life created in the image of God was just about as bad offense as you could take. In the future, we will need to ask ourselves whether the creation of life, digitally creepy, in the image of man is an even greater offense.

Kind of like Data in the Star Trek, the next generation.

Thanks for the props - it is a fascinating topic (to me at least), and one I've been working on for almost 20 years now. Lot's of 2nd and 3rd order effects from the conversion to digital that we still are just beginning to uncover and it's only going to get even more convoluted. The resolution issue is part of the equation, but I hold that due to the fundamental underlying differences, all the oversampling in the world still won't turn one into the other. They are just different at their core. And that's…ok...

As for the music, that's getting close too. Just need sax solos on two tracks, then it is final mix, master, and off to iTunes for the new album. A few teaser rough tracks from the studio portion:

I'm up to r5 on the mixes and after spending the last three days listening I've got some more things to tweak/fix but most of it is close. Should have the album done Jan or Feb.

The t-shirt reminded me of a map of some unknown track.

I'm watching it, totally transfixed, and when they finally show an audience member it is one of my best friends! (11:46). His name is Bill Moore and he plays guitar and he is one seriously smart guy. Then they show audience again and it's two more good friends, (they were obviously there together), one of them runs the Bungalow space at the Sheridan. Was the talk there? He invited me as well and I did not go, sure would have if I'd known it was you.

It's very educational and entertaining. Especially memorable for me is when Todd talks about getting to know people over the internet. The "digital person" is the person we become familiar with, and that person can be somewhat different than the real person. Internet dating is an example of getting to know a person's digital persona, as is this forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that! as Jerry Seinfeld would say. It is fascinating getting to know people across the miles and over the years. :)

It is really strange the useless trivia that finds a home in my melon, when more important stuff doesn't always stick.

For example, I remember Todd posting a Jack Olsen style selfie, at Laguna Seca, that he kind of looked like Billy Bob Thornton. A quick search for threads started by Todd turned up this:
