Villeneuve building new track in BC, Canada
Got the news a few weeks ago that former F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve and some other guys are planning to build a track here in BC.
According to the article it's going to be Like a country club, paying a $35K fee and a yearly membership. Any of you guys are familiar with this concept? It seems to be very common with golf clubs. Would be nice to see a real track just around the corner! Jacques Villeneuve helps envision South Okanagan project |

I hadn't heard anything about this but I won't be holding my breath, this is the 3rd or 4th time I've heard about a track that's going to be built over the last 15-20 years. The last big venture was for a high banked oval with a road course in the centre, 100,000 seating capacity, was going to be built close to Merrit, they even has the ceremonial first shovel of dirt photo op - it was the only shovel of dirt.
I don't mean to be negative but I don't see it happening even with JV in the mix. Finn

To answer one question, there are a good number of country club tracks in the US. There are a certain number of "member only" days during the year but the tracks are still open for others to do track days. Some even host big series like ALMS. VIR has a country club. Monticello in New York tried to get an F1 race! Sounds like a cool arrangement if you have the money. Garages and the club house. It might be nice if Laguna Seca did that. Might relax the noise limits from the NIMBYs who moved there (full well knowing about a world famous racetrack being only a few miles away).

I would assume there will be DE's and other track days for non-members in order to generate some revenue. |
