"Eurosport on Velocity" launches Sept. 28 2013
The Discovery-owned Velocity cable channel is launching a two-hour, Saturday afternoon programming block devoted to motorsports, including motorcycle racing and trucks. "Eurosport on Velocity" launches Sept. 28 from 1:00-3:00pm ET and will be replayed Sunday morning. Programming initially will include highlights from the '13 FIA European Rally Championship, British Superbike, the Silk Way Rally and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
The deal is the first programming agreement forged by the two companies since December, when Discovery agreed to pay $221.6M for a 20% stake in the European sports channel. This deal marks the first time Eurosport programming has been sold into the U.S. market. Velocity is the former Discovery HD Theater. It was relaunched as an "upscale men's network" and is in 54M homes.
