Tom Clancy dead at 66

I think I've read more pages of Clancy in my life than any other fiction author.

Smart writing. Always loved the detail.

This is going to upset my wife...

But I'd rather go at the top of my game.

I found Clancy's work to be slightly better than average , some books were very good, some, not so good. You had to pay attention when reading his books and his research was top notch, I've always said that good fiction is based on fact and this was a part of his stories that I really enjoyed. His publisher's tactic's were not to my liking. I'm going to miss him.
RIP Tom

The last one I read, was the Bear and the Dragon, it really wasn't as well written as others I've ready. Also, it was a tough read, as frankly, I feel the real world USA is much more like the China of the book, and the Chinese are more like the USA of the book.

There was always ridiculous amounts of detail involved in the stories. I think Bear and the Dragon was his attempt at going over the top- parts of the book got so complex with so many character interactions, I took notes on post-it's while reading to try and keep up. I loved it.

The realism with everything was what set him apart from just some guy writing fiction stories. It was all pretty damned believable.

Tom Clancy was one of my favorite authors. I've read every book he has written. "Threat Vector" was outstanding. RIP

I tend to agree with you there, except when it came to the fighting toward the end. And Clancy was way off base about the food in Beijing.

Anyway, Cardinal was my favorite, with Red Storm a close second.
