Self-portrait IN THE COCKPIT

I know there are a lot of pilots here on Pelican, I will start this one today flying a Fairchild PT-26 from Norway.

My daughter took this one in a Stinson L-5 U.S. markings

Thanks for the offer...I'll share with you a little secret...I hate flying even though I do it almost every week. I get anxiety attacks when I fly - always have. I now have the ability and talent to fall asleep before take off and stay that way untill wheels are down. My shrink says its because I am not in control and I won't relinquish control. Sleep provides an excape from reality. As for the flying thing, I look at the opportunity for failure and think of the ramifactions...and while the statistics suggest that flying is far safer than driving at least when I have a fender bender I'm not 10,000+ feet up.

Now that may just change if I had the stick. But at the going rate of lessons, I think I'll just save for my twin trubo 996 / 997 and call it good ;)

A 206 'A' model, don't see too many of those around, nice helicopter.

The only photos I have of me are about 15 years old and I'd have to scan them. I don't have anything recent.

It's actually the very last of the early "lightweight" A models. But it has the B engine for 425hp vs 318hp. She has a very smooth ride.

Some people get their fixed-wing license first, then add the helicopter later. This allows them to get much of their flight time in airplanes, at a much cheaper cost than the helicopter. Also, there are more entry level positions in airplanes than in helicopters.

Other people just suck it up and go straight into the helicopter. Their belief is that the airplane experience is wasted if you only plan to be a helicopter pilot.

If you are thinking of doing it as a long term recreation, as opposed to a career, buy a little 269B and get a private instructor.

Not me...just a Q I've had for yrs.
I can kill myself on a motorcycle...I don't need to buy a chopper to do so. :)
