Lunchtime ride...almost toasted my SC!

I must have had a Porsche Angel sitting on my shoulder today at lunch time.

Spending the day in office I decided to take the 'ole girl out for a lunch hour, decompress, spin around the block.

I recently had Aeroquip fuel lines installed and understand the fuel vapor smell coming from them after car sits in the garage. Start the car up, hit some twisties and the faster I go the more I can smell it...until its burning my nose. I had to stop!!

Leave the car running, searching in the trunk, nothing

Look under front where pump is and run my hand along the lines under car, bone dry

Open engine lid...the return line connector is pissing fuel everywhere! Dripping through/down on the heat exchanger and everything

I luckily had a 19mm and was able to tighten the line and all was well....but I was counting my blessings that the thing didn't ignite.


Any recommendations on a fuel safe threadlock!?

Man, I'd be asking about getting stains out of underwear.

I had a similar issue with my Carrera, the primary fuel line from the filter to the fuel rails had split and was spraying gas from a pinhole leak. Fortunately the cooling baffles around the engine did a good job of capturing the gas and keeping it off of the heat exchangers.

What now? What lines did you replace, how did you tie them into your CIS, how did you find the connectors, etc??

^These were my final fix for the failed tunnel lines. Look great, when tight...work great.

Had some help from a local race shop in getting connectors and fab done.

No threadlocker needed. Two wrenches and make it good-n-tite. Still leaking? Bad/wrong fitting or nicked flare on fitting.?

You smell fuel...you gotta problem. I don't care who manufactures the lines, you shouldn't smell fuel. Believe me I worked in the aviation industry my entire grown up life. Do you really think it is different with a car ?

friend's 930 went to maxium smoke on a club outing several years ago. Same deal ....fuel line fitting. Can only imagine your heart rate after that experience. Glad it all turned out good.

I felt like I was putting my life on the line for my SC...

As I was reaching my hand into a hot engine bay getting it covered with gas all i could think was...this thing could literally ignite at any second

Hindsight it was kind of dumb, but makes for one helluva ... "One day at lunch" story.

Did you have an extinguisher within reach of the driver's seat?
If not - do you have one now?

Teflon tape (stretched really thin) is a fuel-safe leak-stopper, (not sure about the thread-locker part)
