Is it in Mongolia where the men use eagles to attack and kill wolves in order to protect their livestock?

I don't recall.

Maybe it was for sport.

According to the original article, an eagle killed a bear cub back in 2004, that's crazy.

this is why PETA doesn't like eagles and California is considering banning them.

Looks like a risky venture for just the bird's sense of sport.

I'm guessing it's a serious snack.

The left overs are going to be a meal, maybe the Eagle will use it as bait and take a few scavenging critters down.

I got a couple eagle/deer .gifs from the net, but can't post due to file size.
The first is a take down in a field where the bird grabs it and rolls over.
The other is where it picks it up and drops it over a cliff.

A search will find these and more on Imgur.

Golden Eagles are Bad Mothers. Regularly see them intimidate Bald Eagles in their summer range around Lake Granby.

I would't be caught dead holding a big bird like that without some big ass gloves on. Can you imagine what a bite it could take out of you.

while you'd really have to ask the eagle (and it might lie), it was likely for food as there is considerable risk to a bird in attacking such a large animal, even a young one

as to the leftovers: most will go to foxes, coyote, and ravens

I was playing on:
.
Official 2013 Hunting Season Thread
.
wherein some expressed concern about killing for sport, etc.
Obviously, that Eagle is a serious hunter of food...a killing beast!
.
I wonder how long it takes for that deer to be rendered helpless.

This represents just the latest video hoax to use a bit of computer-generated trickery to fool casual viewers. A Dutch filmmaker and animator achieved his own viral video hoax that appeared to show himself flapping a huge pair of wings to achieve human flight earlier this year.
Reminds me of the old Marty Feldman gag regarding giant bees in Africa flying off with children.
