How to clean pencil marks off headliner

Kids friend drew pencil marks all over the tan headliner on my wife's brand new Volvo C70. About a 2x2' area.

Suggestions on best thing to use to clean it off?

try using a a children's soft bristle tooth brush or a cheap 1 inch paint brush and a vacuum cleaner ,
careful so the vacuum doesn't suck the liner into it, gently brush the marks, while holding the wand near the area.

After this, then take a white sock and gently tap the area with the sock.

It's graphite embedded in the material.
Use dry methods first (Mrmerlin).

have you tried the eraser yet? Sometimes the simplest solution is overlooked.

Use a pencil eraser, not the pink ones but the white ones. Similar thing happened to my wife's headliner (I packed some tires in her SUV). The white eraser took the marks out and she never new the difference.

Having the kid's friend's parent handle the cleaning/replacement.

I'm all for people taking responsibility for the actions of themselves and those under their care.

They should step up.

I'd bring it to an auto detailer and have them run their magic wet vacuum machine over it. I'd mention it to the neighbor and offer that they pay me back with a dinner invite.

White eraser first.

If that doesn't work - "Spot-Shot" will usually work. It's designed for carpets, but I've used it on fabric headliners with good results.

There's a thread on this over on the Corvair Forum. Maybe check there for a solution.
