"Colombo" is almost as bad. "Rockford Files" still more or less stands the test of time, if you can get past the thin plots. (Inmyhumbleopinion, obviously)SmileWavy |

Anyone played by Nathan Fillion.
Big fan of Firefly, and stumbled across Castle a couple months ago, and just about every regular on there is likeable. |
Though not everyone's cup of tea, Holly Hunter in Saving Grace is my favorite TV character. Her character, with all the flaws and its ultimate "grace" resonates with me.
Oh, and she did drive a Porsche! angela http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1380552882.jpg |

Andy Griffith would have to be at the very top of my list, but a few more modern examples of GOOD people are:

Phil Robertson and company are misogynistic wal mart sell outs. 'God and country' doesn't mean much when you take your wealth from wal mart. |

Sell-outs? hardly. Not sure why you despise a company that creates jobs for 1.5 million people who have limited abilities or skills and who would otherwise be on the gubmint dole. Not sure how you or anyone could think that's a bad thing. Maybe you tink dems peoples woo dint lern 2 rid nor write so gud shood makes da same monnies as dem colliage gradietes? Here are some FACTS about the Robertsons. wiki: Quote:
A little more on Phil Robertson: he grew up in Louisiana the 5th of seven children. They lived in poverty without electricity, a bathtub, or even a toilet. They lived off the land with what they could grow or catch. In his book Happy Happy Happy, he describes how they lived like it was 2 centuries ago but they were happy as could be without all that modern stuff spoiled people need. In high school he was all-state in football, track and baseball and he got a scholarship to Louisiana Tech where he was the starting quarterback. He was the FIRST overall NFL pick in the 1970 draft. The second string quarterback at LA tech was a guy named Terry Bradshaw. Quote:
Sounds to me like the opposite of a sell-out. He fell on hard times in his early 20's with drinking and sinning, but became born again and cleaned up his act and has been a good father and husband ever since. He started a small business making duck calls and did it better than anyone else had done, and it grew into a multi-million dollar company. He is real when he portays family values and morals, something there is simply not enough of out there anymore. |
The more I think about this, I think this is why I generally can't stomach "Reality" TV shows.
Damn near nobody on any of them is actually likeable. |
Phil Robertson has been around selling cheap calls and hunting videos for a lot longer than you might think. Years ago I watched one of his hunting videos and recall comments that would have most women screaming for his head on a platter. Stuff like 'we keep our women for picking ducks, that's what they are supposed to do' was part of his act.
I'm glad you bought the package the tv producers sold you but that's all it is in my opinion. Claiming some sort of moral high ground over Bradshaw is downright comical. The guy is a marketing expert, that's it. His hunting videos are taj mahal cake hunts in very carefully set up situations that the average man doesn't even dare to dream about. |
I was riveted by Soprano's... but I'm not sure Tony and Walter are what I call "endearing"
The characters from Dick Van Dyke and Mayberry were the first that came to my mind but those have been covered. How about Rhoda? Or Bob Newhart? |
