Tires...

I'm going to put a new set on the 77. She is not a daily driver but could be. I live in the Dallas Ft Worth area. It doesn't rain or snow much but when it does I wouldn't be driving it anyway. Ideas?

Yokohama S Drive

Really? Hmmm I was thinking Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 or the Michelin PS2s - Intersting.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11. Amazing grip, and I get decent wear (for this kind of tire) out of them on my daily driver turbo miata.

but at $500+ for the Michelin PS2s I think not...Yoko's huh? Hmmmm

I'm a big fan of Toyo Proxes myself...

I used to love the Toyo Proxes T1S and T1R. Great street tire, good grip, great in the rain and comfy. The Bridgestone RE11s are much better tires. Maybe not quite as good wrt hydroplaning, but the wet grip and dry grip are both better. Maybe a little less wear but not much.

I haven't tried the S-drives. I did try the Yoko ES100s once and couldn't get rid of them fast enough. I think the S-drives should be a better tire though based on what I've read about them.

I use the Yokohama Advan AO48.

This, I had them on my '88 Targa. Fantastic in the dry, acceptable in the wet. I'm a big fan of Potenzas in general, it's basically all I buy. My local Firestone store is cheaper than Tirerack when you consider shipping and they do quality work.

never mind - wrong size

emcon5 09-26-2013 09:36 PM

Bridgestone Potenza RE760. You will never notice the difference in grip from the RE11 on the street*, and they wear like iron.

*If you do notice the difference on the street, you need to slow the hell down.

Hankook Ventus V12....cheap, quiet and drive well..

I recently installed Bridgestone Potenza RE11's on my 914/6 GT wow these are great tires ! Don't know if they will give good mileage but on this slot car they grip like crazy ! Will be ordering a set for the SC coupe. Purchased locally from Tires Plus their price out the door was the same as Tire Rack with shipping. Previously had Yoko ES100's you might as well install fishing waders you'd have better grip..........horrible tires !!!

I prefer the RE11, but I suspect these are probably better in the rain and will last longer. I put a set on my RX8, great tires as well.

RE11s are awesome tires, have a set of 225/245 set for the M491. But overkill for this application.

I am running Sumitomo HTR ZIII for the last year. They are great street tires with little wear, quiet and grip well, for the price.

cockerpunk 09-27-2013 07:03 AM

the best street tire right now is BFG rival.

i still like hankook RS3s though too, esp in the dry/hot.

craigster59 09-27-2013 07:29 AM

I've had good luck with the General Exclaim UHP's. Great tire for the price (around $110).

I put some "Made in USA", All-Season high profile Goodyears on my 1977.

Had to relearn how to drive the car, skates all over the place which can add a little excitement, but sometimes too much.

I haven't tried the RS3s, but I did try the RS2s back when they were the thing. I went from Toyo T1R to RS2. The RS2 had a little better dry grip, but they were the worst tires in the rain that I've ever driven on. In a light rain with minimal standing water at full tread depth they were trying to hydroplane.
