Just got done sparking a bowl...nice aromatic Highland Mist. Hints of Chocolate and wood. While I can't see doing it daily, from time to time its like a really nice glass of booze.

My dad smoked a pipe occasionally. I really liked the smell of it. I tried it for awhile many years ago but lost interest.

My mom got her home oxygen set-up just yesterday...after being hospitalized for 5 days. Her ABG pH was 7.24 on admission and pCO2 was 91. Smoking is awesome!!

I know that her situation is far from Mike's but smoking still robs a lot from everyone. |

Maybe some people can enjoy tobacco in moderation. I know I can't. I smoked for years and used skoal for years, too. Been free for 7 years now.

Still have my dads flame briar bulldog, but never fire it up any more. Love the smell and the experience. But, I work in healthcare and just can't think of any reason to fire up that is justifyable as a result. Probably a bit jaded, but enjoy yourself....and the more "moderation" the better.

I like the flavour of good pipe tobacco and it can get a bit like choosing a favorite wine now with all the choices and flavours out there now, so no criticism here from me either.

My GF is trying right now to stop a cigarette addiction, very difficult for her. She has now started using Champix (spelling?) But that comes with its own set of challenges. Like very vivid and strange dreams that will actually wake her from her sleep! Enjoy your pipe and remember the criticism only comes from people worried about your health!

I smoked a pipe for a while... but cleaning them is pretty disgusting... I switched to cigars, not as aromatic as a pipe I know, however there are some mild cigars to be found out there.

But if the pipe floats your boat...

I occasionally do a mild cigar or a little tobacco in a pipe. My problem is that I smoke so infrequently that the tobacco dries out in the container before I smoke even a third of it.

For me, it's more of a social thing: I have a cigar with the guys while having a deeply philosophical conversation. It slows down the conversation and reduces the number of "reflex" responses. You think more about what you say, and produce better results because of it. I know there is hard data showing that nightly cigar smoking causes a real increase in cancer rates. What about, say, monthly or quarterly? Any noticeable trend at that rate?
