Moses, Good for you and your bride! Looks beautiful. We built our "forever" cabin in the woods up near McCall, Idaho several years ago. There are some valid points referenced in the previous posts. We too love the look, feel and smell of wood. We chose Western Red Cedar for the exterior (and interior, as it's full log) as cedar is very impervious to insect/bird infestation. Also, on fire protection, our carrier will actually send a crew to encase our home in retardant if there is a forest fire in our area, AND, clean it up afterwards. The premium is actually not that bad. PM me if you want more info. Enjoy the process and more importantly, your family.

I guess everyone has a place where they feel at peace. Where the world makes sense. The mountains are that place for me.

I took a week off with no plans except to go to the mountains for some quiet time with my wife while I try to help her through the dark days of chemotherapy. A dear friend of ours drove up to the mountains to see us. He brought a nice bottle of wine and we watched the snow fall while we had dinner. Just perfect.

May the dark days pass with little remembrance and the days of future hold no bounds to the excitement, joy and love of your new adventure together in the mountains.

Prayers to you both.

This sounds sudden and I hope for the best.
Please tell her I say hello and am thinking of the two of you.

Best to you and your wife. Together, tough times lead to stronger people.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. We have great kids and wonderful friends and neighbors. In truth it puts things in perspective and makes us appreciate everything so much more.

Yup. Whenever I start whining and moaning about my life, I think about my patients and their families. Really shakes the perspective thing up.

And the view is beautiful, Moses! Remember to relish in a day of nothing but looking at that same view and just holding your wife's hand. Hugs to you and your wife. Sounds like you are doing exactly what you need to be doing to make her well.

Best wishes to you both. Although the primary stress is experienced by the one going through the treatment, those around don't escape it. I hope things go well, and you both can have a long, happy life together.

Just caught the tail ends of this.

Good luck to the wife. I'm local, so if you need anything.

Broke ground yesterday. Good news. The granite I was so worried about is fractured and is coming out with a backhoe. Easy. And I'll have huge boulders to keep for landscaping. I hated watching the big trees come down. I'll replant a lot of native pine and fir.

I can't wait to see all of this unfold. Please keep the updates coming!

Best wishes to you both.

Congrats Moses. Always sad to lose trees, but your contractor looks to be keeping all that he possibly can. It's a refreshing change from developers that clear cut mature trees to create a bland subdivision.

Moses...the 914 World is having the annual West Coast Ramble up in Tahoe this coming weekend...you should drop by! Most are staying at Mont Bleu, arriving Thursday evening (BBQ in the parking lot) through Sunday. Lots of activities scheduled.

Looks pretty solid!

Structure goes up pretty fast. Getting to the lock up phase before winter is a pretty big deal.
