Ok you cleared one thing for me and that is there is obviously different variations of this and I think the flag now belongs on the right side. And as i would say to my brother thank you for your service. One more question, the metal on the right side of my brothers is a strike medal?

I was born in 1963 and remember seeing the casualty reports on television when I was growing up and even at a young age I was saddened. Through the years I have known and currently work with many Vietnam veterans. I don't know why but I have always had a great respect and caring for veterans of the Vietnam war. I wear a MIA & KIA bracelet on each wrist. I have had these bracelets for the past 15 years and have researched the names on each bracelet. The anniversary of the Marine pilot whom is MIA is coming up on October 12. Captain John R. Peacock ll was on a mission piloting a Grumman A6 Intruder & never returned. October 12, 1972. You are not forgotten. I thank all of the Vietnam veterans here for your service.

Those are unit crests. Can't read your brothers plaque that well but it looks like the 9th Aviation Battalion and the crest on the right side was probably the Regiment crest. I don't know how Aviation units are structured. Mine was the 9th Infantry Division on one side and the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Artillery on the other side.

Most of the viet nam units have web sites. Just type in the company name or unit number. It will pop up along with badges honors and so on
