What the heck is wrong with kids today?

Can you spot what I think is wrong with these two kids?

And it isn't just these two kids or these two pictures. Kids like this show up in the background of many car pics...

???? So what are you saying?

You could catch a pic of me looking on my phone while my car is on the lift... Gotta check pelican for advice somehow.

I know the point you are trying to make, but these pictures really don't make it.

I'll tell you what. That kid has got a VERY BAD attitude. He is not even looking at the 911 for Gawd sake, duh, probably looking around for a Nissan Skyline.

The second picture certainly makes a great point.
A car like that parked on the street and the young man in the shorts just walks on by, oblivious to the world.
When I was a pup, you would have had to ask me not to stand so close to your car and to stop asking so many questions about it. And I would have walked the same street for years hoping to get another peek.

I saw a 993 cab in just about average condition in a parking lot today...stopped and drooled for probably 10 minutes.

Haha! Very obvious! :D

I was at benihana the other day and what I thought a family of 5 was at another "show" table. ... dont thik Dad, Mom, 2 teenage boys or the tweener daughter said a single word to eachother ....

What's there to look at? Its just another old car. Now if you had a late model Lambo or 911 turbo, that maybe another story.

LeeH 10-01-2013 11:19 PM

Sorry... Don't see anything wrong.

Truly a sad sign of youth today. I do the best I can putting cars on shirts each season, and just the other day gave a Revell 911 model to the 8 year old across the street. He seemed interested.

I know what you mean.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I were sharing a glass of bubbly 35th anniversary) on our resort balcony overlooking the patio and my wife pointed out a couple st a table below. Good looking folks, but he was ignoring the (very good looking) girl friend and was engaging with his cellular device. The wife jokingly suggested I should go down and ask the young woman to dance.

Tempting, but I think all would have been better if the young woman had enough self-respect to advise the dumb arse to put the device away. I had enough on my plate that evening. :D

I can't help but think though, that a young man who can look a girl in the eye and engage her on a personal level would have no shortage of female companionship these days.

Best
Les

I would have and still would be all over these cars. Probably asking to help wrench on the one on the lift...

If it weren't handheld electronic devices it'd be something else. What appeals to one may not be appealling to all. Kind of like women. Wait until they mature a bit. Kids usually aren't real big into single malt scotch either.

wayner 10-02-2013 07:29 AM

Is it handheld devices (pic 1)?

or is it that cars are just falling out of fashion (pic 2)?

or are people like me, 911Saucy, Matt etc. just oddballs?

Yup.

If the kids were leaning on the fenders to.look inside there'd be a post about this too. I'm on a guitar forum and the old guys there lament that kids aren't interested in guitar music much any more. So what? Did you all care about the hoop and stick your grandfather played with?

You would think... but girls are just as addicted to their mobile devices.

Cheers

What's wrong with kids nowadays is that in many areas of L.A. the kids would not be ignoring those cars, they'd be stripping them.

I'd actually prefer to have kids ignore my ve-hickles.

The whole staring at your phone thing really hit me this past week. I spent the week with my 9yr old at Disney. At night we'd leave the park and get on the bus to get back to the hotel. Well over half the people would sit down and get out their phone for the entire trip. This one family of four really jumped out at me. Mom, dad and the two kids (around 12 and 15) got on, sat down and all took out their phones. For the 20 minute trip they never looked up or said one word to each other.

That Einstein quote is correct. Human interaction is going away. My wife won't even answer her phone and is irate if call her instead of text her. She won't even listen to her messages. She sees I called and texts back what did you want. I respond, did you listen to the message where I told you what I want? She always says no so I'm at the point that I no longer bother even leaving them.

I think there is a huge generational shift going on with the disinterest in cars by kids. I find the whole thing fascinating but sad at the same time.

I read in Panorama that the average (new?) Porsche owner is 48 years old. Will they suffer the same fate as Oldsmobile? Doubtful but I bet that number will get higher in the years to come.
