Alkaline Antioxidant Water

A customer gave me 5 gallons of this water and I feel good after drinking it. I know there are many DEEP THINKERS here. Do you see any health benefits from drinking it?

I don't know about this water thing. You know what they say. However, I do drink HUGE amounts of orange juice. Kind of a weird addiction but I feel it's better than me drinking huge amounts of alcohol.

My wife was into this once. I looked into it and it didn't make any sense to me. She thought she could change the Ph of her body, but I was, and am, skeptical. Stomach ph is regulated at 1 to 5, blood is regulated at a little over 7, bone is over 7, skin is 5.5. With these fairly robust internal regulators acting, you'd have to drink one heck of a lot of alkaline water to over come the natural regulators and change your body's various ph levels.

Modern snake oil. More than enough HCL in your stomach to erase any effect from water. Drink lots of it, and your gizzard will gladly produce more HCL to maintain proper pH. But, people are making money from this stuff so it must be good.

It is just a way to sell water at a very high price to gullible people.

Staying hydrated is good for you.

I'm not confident alkaline water would make any difference.
What does make a difference is clean water. So drink the good stuff.
I drink tap water that's gone through a filter.

The placebo effect can be strong in anything positive someone does.
Drinking more water is usually never a bad thing.
Whether those new chemicals and changes to the body's long-term systems is a good thing remains a question.

The body has a way of re-balancing itself:
A). I knew a guy that drank (soda)pop all day long, and always was breaking bones. I suspected his body was stealing calcium from the bones in order to neutralize the large amounts of phosphoric acid being ingested hourly.

B). On the flip side, too much calcium can be negative as well.
I'm guessing it leads to kidney stones and/or congestive buildup in the organs.

Not to be a downer, only realistic,.....but the 'alkaline' part of that expensive water may be from just running city tap water through a carbon/calcium filter, or any material basic enough in ph to reduce 'normal' acidity. For instance, common chalk is calcium carbonate.
Then, they stick an ambiguous 'healthy' label on it.

Some foods in small amounts will have way more available calcium than the aforementioned water, and be cheaper.
But keep drinking more water.
Your body is saying that it is working.

If you hyperventilate it will lower the pH of your blood...at least that what it did in the Andromeda Strain...

Quote:
The microbe, code named "Andromeda", mutates with each growth cycle, changing its biologic properties. The scientists learn that Andromeda grows only within a narrow pH range; in a too-acid or too-basic growth medium, it will not multiply—Andromeda's pH range is 7.39–7.43, like that of human blood. That is why Jackson and Ritter survived: both had abnormal blood pH. However, by the time the scientists realize that, Andromeda's current mutation degrades the lab's plastic shields and escapes its containment. Trapped in an Andromeda-contaminated laboratory, Dr. Burton demands that Stone inject him with Kalocin ("the universal antibiotic"); Stone refuses, arguing it would render Burton too vulnerable to infection by other harmful bacteria. Burton survives because Andromeda has already mutated to nonlethal form.

Tap water is your friend. Anything purchased in a "specialty" bottle at a "special" price is far less interesting health and budget wise. If you don't like the taste of your local water, use a Britta carbon filter or add one in-line to your cold water side for about $50.

in New Orleans, Tap water is your enemy - it comes out of the river - same river that the entire middle of North America uses as a sewer and all the farmland pesticide runs off into; Baton Rouge has great water tho

your water utility is required to give you a testing report of their water quality every year - read it next time and don't toss it away

your tap water can still contain lead or other contaminants from your pipes or "pull back" of bacteria etc. from your irrigation system (under gnd sprinkles) into the rest of the pipes - install a backflow device if needed & let the water run a couple of minutes before drinking

a good filter can be useful also

bottled water sits in plastic bottles for a long time - plasticizers can leach into the water and they are linked to hormonal disturbances

Well, even immediately after Katrina the EPA found NOLAs tap water to be surprisingly high quality. The "toxic gumbo" failed to materialize and water was generally well within EPA standards. This is higher quality drinking water than found in most corners of the world.

not a very high std., but be my guest

and note something else too: the huge amount of Cl- used to clean the Miss. River of contaminants react to form chloro-organics, and I do not know a single PhD toxicologist or an MD in NoLa who will give up their bottled water for the treated river water

the ones I know in BTR (and me too) also bring bottles of BTR water down to NoLa to drink during visits

OTOH, the Mirex in the seafood makes it nice & spicy

THe EPA std is the one that matters, and NOLA meets it. I have more concern about elevated hypertension from long term sodium intake than untraceable compounds below 1ppb.
