Apple Event Oct 22
Anyone there? I was watching the live feed while waiting for lunch downtown, then took in the full event on Apple when I got back to the office.
I have to say they are awesome at getting hype on their products (no PT Barnum references here please). I soooo want to sell my iPad and Macbook Air and upgrade to the latest, and no I am usually the last one to get upgrades after 3-4 years, but man I want the new stuff. OS upgrade - free (all the way back to the iMac) - Nice, iLife, iWork - free, nice Very smart move as you can see the line between desktop and mobile device blurring more (yes MS has this idea as well) I jumped on the Mavericks upgrade and it went smooth as butter from Lion; downside was my Parallels needed upgrading and I have an old copy of ADmitMac that needed to be deleted before I could access network shares. I must say I would die for a MacPro fully loaded, but will have to wait to win the lotto first ![]() I think Apple had an excellent event and really gave people what they wanted. IMHO Thoughts? Bob

I'm downloading Mavericks right now. We'll see how that goes. iOS7 has been mixed at best for me, but the new iPad looks very sweet. I could see picking that up and relegating my laptop to studio recording status. It is getting to the point where you can do a significant amount of your work on a tablet.

Nice updates, but I am sad because there was no Air with retina display. I'm still lugging my 17" Macbook Pro around which is really killing me.... thing must weigh 7 lbs. Holding out for the new Air to switch over and ditch this brick.

I'll be curious what you guys think of Mavericks... I'm still back at Snow Leopard and haven't ever though about upgrading. But the airshare feature would be nice, we have one Apple TV and I'm planning on getting one in my office soon...

Apple needs to start innovating again and get off of he perpetual "incremental upgrade" treadmill. It's getting annoying. I'm foregoing mavericks since I'll lose my windows virtual machines (Mavericks is not compatible with Parallels 7) and I don't feel like paying $50 to buy the latest version in order to run my "windows only" software like Revit. If there's one thing I absolutely can't stand even more than paying too much for something it's paying for something twice. I don't know for sure but I'm willing to bet the recent upgrades and improvements are pretty minor / incremental and IMHO aren't worth the additional expense just to get me the same level if functionality that I presently have.
I'll wait until a few reviews are out on Mavericks and if it's truly beneficial or revolutionary I'll bite the bullet but I also know that one of the fastest paths to frustration (and probably bankruptcy) is to chase the "cutting edge" versions of things all the time.
