Can I splice a wire for desktop power supply?

My old Gateway XP power supply has a frozen cooling fan so I bought a new one but the new supply is missing one small floppy connector on the end of a run of 4 pin connectors that powers the DVD drives.
Can I just splice the extra connector onto the wire from the old unit?
The wires are all color coded the same and are the same gauge.

Yeah, you should be able to splice it just fine. Assuming you still actually use the floppy drive. I'd just leave it otherwise.

Mystic: actually, I haven't used the floppy in a decade but, the other floppy connection is on a card across from the drives and the cable doesn't quite reach.

Thanks for the reassurance that its OK to do the splice. I am surprised that someone hasn't posted "be sure to shut off the machine first"...

It's just 5v and 12v DC, it can't be *that* bad.
