Halloween present from Windstream

Just got a nice little Halloween present from Windstream (my internet/phone provider). Internet speeds were upgraded from 3 meg to 6 meg down and from 768 to 1.5 up, and cost per month goes down by $4! Seems that another local provider is doing the same thing and they are doing some proactive marketing with existing customers!

Sweet.

Unfortunately for me, I'm just too far out from the CO to get more than 1.5 down. My basic up wtih Windstream is 384k, which isn't bad.

That is how you retain customers. My wife called Cox Communications a few months ago, because our bill was going up by about $5 every month. "Sorry ma'am, these rate increases are part of doing business". So we switched to AT&T Uverse and saved about $50/mo for better service. When she cancelled our service they offered her roughly 50% off on our service for the next year, and she got the satisfaction of telling them they they had their chance and failed. Bunch of damn crooks.......

Just be glad you don't have comcast! Canceling that was nearly impossible. I has to tell them multiple times that I was moving out of their coverage area!!!

You have it pretty good if quality is increasing and price is going down, seems to be a rarity in any consumer driven market.


I recently moved to Orange County CA. and needed internet service-

Called AT&T to provide it. They came out and installed it which took 6 hours.

It worked sporadically from day one and several attempts were made by lots of nice hard working polite folks who knew what they were doing. All told four weeks went by, three full days of work in the house, outside the house and down the street. All wires, equipment, pole drop, line to box on street etc replaced with new wire or components.

I was impressed with the people who came to the house but beyond unimpressed with anyone behind the phone. The absolute worst customer service you could imagine with enough time spent on the phone on hold to have solved world peace if I was a genius. I was finally told by one of the techs what I already suspected that the connection located in some distant dark room full of aging electronic equipment was causing all the problems. The tech said not to repeat that to the people behind the curtain but to refuse to continue the search for a solution as one would never be found. He stated that this was common and the company was well aware this was happening but they were hoping for suckers to pay the bills despite proper functioning service. What a dis service to all the hard working people in the field not to mention a waste of resources.

After several attempts to cancel my non functioning "service" I went to a physical AT&T store with the equipment that no one would take back at UPS store and a lawn chair to prove a point. Spoke with the manager who said he couldn't do anything at first but after hearing the story and then confirming it by looking at his computer he spent one and a half hours getting me out of the contract, removing all charges then told me to take the equipment and go run it over in the car.... his words.

I received a bill on the first of each month for two months after the visit to the AT&T store for all charges plus monthly fee plus robo calls every couple days. I had a friend who is a lawyer send them a note I roughed out with the details on her letter head and some threatening lawyer babble and I have not heard from them since.

Time wasting CRIMINALS!!

Everyone said Time Warner was horrible but so far price and quality are light years ahead of AT&T.
