It got a little windy today at my house!

I was working in the shop today and heard a loud noise, thought it was one of the steel oil drums expanding from being in the sun. But than I thought it a bit odd, as the drums are in the shade. Wife comes in, and says look out the window to the front. This is what I get to see! We had gust over 60 MPH, and this tree is about 100' tall and about 3.5' in diameter at the base. Only good thing is I should get a bunch of good firewood for next season! Just have to cut it up this weekend.

My tree is bigger then yours. LOL LOL If you have no property damage other then a hole in the ground and no one got injured it's a good day.

Chainsaw time!

It's interesting how things vary by region. In KS it's not even considered a severe thunderstorm until the winds hit 60, which is frequently. We had several storms this year with 90 mph straight line winds, which are really interesting at your kid's ballgame. We had the usual limbs down but very little severe tree damage.

I guess Kansas is a flat state high winds would be normal. It would be hard to keep you sons or daughter baseball cap on his head while playing. I bet the pitcher would have some curve ball on a 60 mph wind. LOL

Yeah, it's part of the "joy" of living here.

I suppose the trees probably adapt around here and have deeper roots. The ones on that second big tree posted look really shallow.

At first glance the roots look shallow.but there are some thick ones under the concrete that gave out when hurricane Sandy hit. That tree stood for over 50 years.

Looks like you could almost flip it back into position, give it some water and call it a day.

Or even just leave it as it is. I kinda like that 45 degree look.

A couple of months ago we had 125mph winds. The trees stayed intact but were completely striped of leaves.

We decided to give it the log cabin look.

Well it took about 4 hours to get it all cut up and moved out back with the help of the my wife and son. Even had to break out the 100cc Homelite xp1000 chainsaw from the 60's! It has the 36" bar on it for the big stuff, and it was needed! My son ran the 18" saw while I ran the "Big Boy"!

Good times. I really enjoy processing firewood. Sounds strange but simple, honest work is a nice break from my typical work day behind a keyboard.
