How fast?

Ok, so lets have it…

What's the fastest you've driven your car, or ridden your bike.

Bill Douglas 11-04-2013 03:19 PM

Disclaimer. I am ashed of myself ;) . On a public road in the 911, 230 kilomers per hour which is about 140mph.

Embraer 11-04-2013 03:20 PM

951 modded...163 GPS verified.

F355....170 gps verified

the 951 was much more stable

motion 11-04-2013 03:28 PM

I've done some crazy speed on my bikes and in cars on public roads, but would never post the stories here. No telling who's watching ;)

sammyg2 11-04-2013 03:32 PM

I always obey all posted speed limits.

I've gone as fast as I ever wanted to on the drag strip and way faster than I ever wanted to in a drag boat.

quattrorunner 11-04-2013 03:48 PM

56 on my bicycle.
167 Audi.
155 911 turbo (red line 915 gearbox)

gprsh924 11-04-2013 03:53 PM

E46 M3 -140mph
E39 530i -130mph
924S -125 mph

On water -70mph on the waverunner (gps verified)

Snowmobile- 96mph on a frozen lake, 87mph on a logging trail (much more intense)

slodave 11-04-2013 03:57 PM

152 MPH and it was legal, on a public road.

cockerpunk 11-04-2013 04:22 PM

buried the needle in my 951, but its a bit optimistic, probably like 160. top speeded my old GTI at a gps varified 145.

Christien 11-04-2013 04:24 PM

When I was in high school I hit 200 kmh in our honda accord on a 4-lane highway. Dumb dumb dumb.

At the track I've hit 230 kmh in a 996TT. The car had more, but I ran out of cajones.

varmint 11-04-2013 04:26 PM

Maxed out a hayabusa. Was too clenched to look at the gauges.

Les Paul 11-04-2013 04:35 PM

3 times under 19 seconds on a measured mile in the old 930. 155 on my old Pro Stock motored Z-1 over an overpass with tank slapping front end wobble late 70's.

I have held it under 160 GPS speed the last couple years.

GWN7 11-04-2013 04:37 PM

There is a rumor the Black car does 150 mph

Eric Hahl 11-04-2013 04:38 PM

180mph indicated on my old 2001 Honda RC51 on the track...equates to maybe 170ish true speed.

(a) it was a friend of mine.

(b) it was in a foreign country.

5String43 11-04-2013 04:54 PM

Went through an SCTA speed trap on a dry lake a 162 and change. All certified and sanctioned, so no worries. Interesting, to say the least.

930LDR 11-04-2013 04:55 PM

Topped out my short geared 930 at Mid-Ohio ~160ish
Topped out a F348 (with the top down) on an undisclosed desert Highway ~ 175ish

manbridge 74 11-04-2013 05:51 PM

Through the traps at Daytona in 1992 on a 600F2 Honda at 151mph. Factory guys were at 164mph, so yeah, it was a long week.

doug_porsche 11-04-2013 06:18 PM

I have done a GPS verified 672 MPH in my stock 1.6L Miata. Did it west bound on A1A out of Key West.

If Big Brother is watching, its never too early to discredit myself as a reliable witness:)

Fastest I can recall was 135 indicated on speedo in eagle talon. 125 indicated on speedo on my VTX1800.
I thought about asking this question to you all just as I was in 3rd on an on ramp and getting moooving... Now though, it seems when I get up to about 90, I back off. Perhaps too many speeding tickets (and that 1 pesky criminal speeding charge).
I need to get to a track...

masraum 11-04-2013 07:04 PM

I've heard an '88 Carrera 3.2L will redine 5th gear. That's about 150. A turbo miata will redline 6th gear, that's about 130.

Now THAT'S movin' and grovin'. The SC is just starting to get lively once it hits the redline :)

flyenby 11-04-2013 08:07 PM

150 in my Andial modded 1979 930, on the 405 South , 3 am.it was back in the early 80's

Evans, Marv 11-04-2013 08:14 PM

I'm not much of a speeder. I hit 125 on a short straight away in my '72 911E & never tried anything more after that. Zipped my bike to 130 once to see how it felt. Went about 140 riding with a friend in his '57 Corvette in 1960. That was when electronic ignitions first came out & he wanted to see how it would run after getting one installed.

Tervuren 11-04-2013 08:19 PM

Two weeks ago, my '86 944 went the fastest its ever gone with me driving it. I built it as my A-B car, it hasn't seen more than interstate speed limits. I ended up in a chase with a drunk driver, and did not get a police response from highway patrol, or the big city I was in, the drunk was also speeding, and when he came up on cars, I'd lay back, then catch back up. I never looked at the speedo on the catch back ups, but a google map look at the path/time reveals an avg speed of 80MPH. I know I topped out 3rd, and went somewhere in 4th at one point.

Finally got to a small town police dpt, town possibly smaller than Andy Griffith's Mayberry, driver of the vehichle I was following went off in handcuffs with those guys. Thanks to small town police departments. (a fifth of the driver's blood was alcohol)

A930Rocket 11-04-2013 08:56 PM

160 on the track. 140 on the road. Both in my old 930.

HardDrive 11-04-2013 10:03 PM

155-160 in my 997. Not sure on a bike. Probably 125.

livi 11-04-2013 11:48 PM

Once I almost hit 70mph in my Carrera. Crap that was fast!

Nostril Cheese 11-04-2013 11:51 PM

180MPH (indicated) in a 993 Turbo.

911SauCy 11-05-2013 03:58 AM

Closed road in Mexico.

157 in '98 Buick Regal GS.

sc_rufctr 11-05-2013 04:23 AM

140mph on a track as a passenger my father was driving and that was plenty fast. On my own about 120mph.
I was 19 at the time. The car was a modified Holden Monaro (Aussie muscle car) my dad owned.

Very similar to this one.

JAR0023 11-05-2013 06:50 AM

Mid 50s on the bicycle. Topped an indicated 140 in a Callaway Supernatural back when that car was new. '95ish? -J

gacook 11-05-2013 06:59 AM

My Mustang speedo only went to 120--had it pegged on a road in Mexico.

My 350Z's speedo goes to 160...haven't had time to make a trip down to Mexico lately.

The Porsche (944) is my slowest car :(

haha... same on my old built-up yosh gixer 1100... road gets narrow and things are happening pretty quick. Eyes peeled waaaay down the road and no time to look at a speedo. (Like Honda, I figure they have +10 optimistic reading anyhow.)

Scary - one time taching out in top gear and a badazz early 911 turbo passed me!

Weird on a bike after those speeds and then slowing to 55. Feels like walking speed in a parking garage.

red-beard 11-05-2013 08:02 AM

56 mph on a Trek 400 in 1990. Scary!

JavaBrewer 11-05-2013 09:42 AM

High 50's on my bicycle in a downhill pack sprint - scary. About 25 years ago I got up to 130 driving a Firebird somewhere outside of Lone Pine CA. That was even more frightening. Never more than 10mph over limit since on public roads.
