The really sad thing, is that if the PARF threads were to happen face to face, I'm sure they would be a lot more civil. I'm sure the discussion would get heated. It's too bad a bunch of adults have to get so nasty from behind there keyboards.

Why the focus on PAR for name-calling?

A couple weeks ago I posted right here in angelic OT and was called a douche and a Dick. -Granted it was a contentious topic  I bought a new computer that wasn't a Mac. GASP! --Tempers will flair...

btw, No one was banned.

OTOH, in PARF I was banned because I said to Speeder "so then, your telling us you're not hydrogen."

...This was after he made the blanket insult of PARF being made up of either Hydrogen or Stupid. --take-away: it's okay to insult in mass; just don't make it personal. ...unless they utter the word Windows.

meh - it's a political 'unfair' mess, but that's okay. Tis is all the way of the world.

carry on...

Look at the list of those that have been banned recently in PARF...

Since the start of Nov., 4 people have been sent to Ban Island! Name calling and personal attacks. There was that other list that showed the last few months. A lot of people went on vacation! And for what? Mostly name calling and personal attacks.

That just does not happen very often it OT. I can't even remember the last time someone was banned in OT (other than spammers) - I know there have been some over the years.

4 banned in Nov...that is a good sign, not a bad one.

Of course people are primarily banned in PARF. Anytime there is a somewhat controversial tread in OT, it is immediately moved to PARF. The same folks that get banned post in OT as well.

I have been posting here for over 13 years and have 22,249 posts and have never been banned.

Because Finstone mentioned the "silliness" of PARF. I fail to see how personal attacks and name calling infer silliness. Like others have said, it doesn't take long for a thread in PARF to derail and form some sort of train wreck.

The threads in OT that derail, usually do end up in silliness or just keep going in a different direction for a while.

My point is for what they are banned for! You mentioned silliness in PARF. I see people genuinely getting pushed out of shape. So much so, they resort to name calling, attacks, and other nonsense.

The same folks that post in PARF and OT that have been banned, also have very different attitudes in the respective forums. I don't post in PARF, but I do read. I sit on the fence and watch things play out. Tempers flare in there, they do.

You seem to have a more steady temper than some in PARF, Fint, and from what I have seen, you really don't make any low blows. That's why you don't get banned.

I've never clicked on the Stijn thread. What's it about? :)

One of my guidelines for thread viewing is that I never click on one with hundreds of replies, it takes too long to read it. And lord knows that I waste enough time here already.
