Roku connection question...
We bought a Roku to try something different, but I'm having problems setting it up, or rather connecting to the internet.
I found my wireless router and input the password. It then connects to the wireless network, but will not connect to the local network (which then connects to the internet). We have AT&T and are using their router. I've been to the Roku website, but it's about as helpful as a kick in the nuts. The set up is simple, but how can I get to the next step? I have a couple of these things. how about the reset button in the back of it? mine have been completely straight forward. after connecting to the internet, it auto connects locally. do you have a separate password for your local?

AT&T, DSL?
First try connecting Roku to router with ethernet (bypass wireless) cable and see what you get. If no go check firewall level on router, if set to strict policy try lowering or checking to make sure SSL, port 443 is open. I doubt it's closed as you would have had issues with other devices / services but hey, you never know.

Yes, AT&T DSL.
With this Roku 1, all I have is RCA jacks and HDMI ports to connect to. No ethernet port. Every laptop in the house works great. Quote:

We have just one password to connect to it. Reset button did nothing.

If a device / laptop is sleeping and wakes it will try to use it's last known address which the router may have also assigned the new device causing a conflict. Rare situation but it can happen. Do you know how to access your routers set up page? It should have a section listing all connected devices.
