This is what happens when your engineers create the hands down best vehicle in the segment out of the box. You guys rag on Porsche for being brilliant; just so happens they are as good at engineering SUV's as much as they are sports cars.
There's a bit of an untold story in the world of Automotive engineering- the people who work on the minivans and the soccer mom SUV's- typically those people are what we call the 'B-team'. If they were the A-team, they'd be working on the Corvettes an the 911's of the world. Not a lot of people get to the top of their peers in a career field and say "Hey, I want to be the lead powertrain engineer for that new Honda CRV." No, they're off doing the NSX. You guys get my point.
The Cayenne is (was) what happens when you grab the A-team and force them to work on an SUV. It sells like hotcakes.
