Check woot.com/electronics. They usually have good selection of stuff. Some refurbed or open box, some new one model back or close out. Picked up a very nice Harmon Kardon speaker for $70. Massive sound. Went back and got two more. Even if you had to buy new, I'd highly recommend it.

My 911 doesn't have a stereo and I was thinking of throwing one of these in my car for the longer drives. Has anyone done something similar? Wondering if the sound is loud enough for windows down highway driving.

I bought my son one of these at Costco for ~$40:
Bem Wireless | Mobile Speaker Not true stereo if using just one, but sounds remarkable good and can fill a room (or garage) with sound. I would think this would be loud enough in a 911. |
I have the Bose Soundlink Mini. Best bluetooth speaker in my opinion. Not sure it has the sound volume for some, but sound quality is right up there. I find it sounds best through my LG tablet. My apple products (including iphone), doesn't produce the quality of sound for some reason.

its not at all what you asked for but if she wants good music in her dorm and doesnt need the portable BT setup, these are great

If she has an amazon prime account (can use yours) you should consider an amazon player, such as the TAP. Even without the account, the tap can be a bluetooth speaker. Pretty good sound for the form factor and nice charging base.
