Spoon Fight!
I'm debating my next spoon. I've decided that I want something in .308.
I had my eye on a Savage 10BA. I have a few bolt-action rimfire rifles and I enjoy shooting them immensely. I was thinking that it would be fun to get into back-bench shooting, but I know nothing about precision distance shooting. I had my eye on a Savage 10BA, but then I saw a Rock River LAR-8. I know, completely different kind of spoon, but it seems like it would be fun as well, and I wouldn't need to learn a new skill to enjoy it. They are pretty close in price to each other, but in the short-term I'll need to pick just one.

For what a LAR-8 costs, I'd rather get a well built FAL from a kit and DCI receiver.
(and teh LAR-8 uses FAL mags anyway) Argie kit built on DCI - 1300 - 008_zpsdbe56e41.jpg Photo by dsgraham56 | Photobucket Aussie style L1A1 - 1400 - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/sablephoenixxm/photo21_zps50481263.jpg Both listed on FALFILES.com marketplace forum

Find an inexpensive K98 Mauser with an action that isn't worn. Have a new heavier .308 barrel put on and have a local gunsmith make you a nice maple stock. Have the barrel bedded well. Unique, accurate, dependable firearm.

i have been looking at the K31's, lately. same bullet as the .308, pretty much the same round in terms of ballistics. and you can get one for under $300, wicked accurate, usually well maintained.

Alright. Rereading and bringing accuracy back into play don't go semi auto...
Savage F/TR in 308. Spend good money on the scope. And reloading equipment. If'n you aren't stuck on a 308, I may be able to swing a deal on a TRG in 338 Lapua from a buddy of mine... he got 2 a while ago and while one sold, the other has been gathering dust on his shelf...

I was saying get a .308 bolt-action for precision shooting OR an LAR-8 for heavy-duty plinking.
I try to stick to milsurp calibers to keep shooting costs down. .338 Lapua is pretty expensive to shoot. (Yes, I know some military snipers use it, but it isn't used widely enough used to bring costs down.) .50 BMG is a cheaper caliber to shoot.

LOL so true. But I shoot a .50 BMG, so I'm hardly one to talk.
