I have watched all the flipping vegas shows....as well as some of the other "flipping" series in other locations. If you could buy houses for the prices he claims to on the show...you certainly could make money. He gets them for less than half of their worth and sells them in one day for about one and a half times what they are worth. I have a house in Vegas in new condition that would not sell for half of what they get...and I wouldn't sell it for twice what they pay. They also get materials and labor at a fraction of what I have ever found (but the vendors/companies get free advertising).
The guy really is just not that good in the remod/construction biz and does little work himself. He works on borrowed money at a high interest rates so he has to flip them in a few days to keep carrying costs from eating all the profits. Seems to me that most of his flips are setups. It is an interesting/entertaining show because his wife is such a princess and he is a doofus. He does carry a gun and make a big deal of playing badarse when someone breaks into one of his homes, etc...and has driven several different, top dollar Porsches...but I think he gets a deal on them for advertising purposes. He has a seminar and book he sells like all real estste gurus. Both he and his wife seem a lot more "normal" and reasoned outside of the show...which is clearly designed to entertain.
