There have been some documented self-appendectomies over the years...that's hard core.

To her credit and not by her choice, my SIL had a C-section under field infiltration with local anesthetic only.

You did remember to aspirate first, right?

If you are ever thinking about refinishing your own hardwood floors, go lie down until the feeling passes. You want to be on vacation somewhere else when that is going to happen.

You would be amazed at some of the "procedures" people attempt on themselves.

I doubt it. I was being harassed by a co-worker the entire time and just wanted the injection to be done.

Speaking of amazement, how about the things people put in their butt or urethra...why is that so prevalent?

Uh, you know the suture removal portion of the procedure (at least here in America) is free, right?

I have a friend who's a urologist. During residency he had to take care of a guy who had done a home vasectomy. Made the incision in the right place, did it the right way, used fishing line instead of surgical suture... But he got a "post-op" infection and pussed out, which is how he wound up in the hospital.

Hehe. You're probably right about that for here too Noah, but the whole thing was a very traumatic experience for me.

I'm a bit of a wuzz when it comes to pain and my blood. I pass out at the drop of a hat. After discussions with the surgeon, we decided the best approach for the procedure was to knock me out with a heavy sedation. Well, the butcher started cutting before I was out of it. I hit the fcuking roof! And the bastard just kept on cutting while I was screaming like a banshee. I had a nurse on each side of me holding me still.

After being in pain for more than a week from the stitches pulling I was at my wits end. It was a desperate measure to take the stitches out myself but I was not gunna let the bugger have another crack at me.

A soak in a nice hot bath and the old chicken skin handbag was nice and loose. Picking at the knots with the tweezers and clippers and I had the buggers out in no time.

Sorry for hijacking the thread for a moment - I'll get back in my box now. ;)

Soak them in Epsom salts for about 30 minutes a day for a few days, and they pop out nice and easy. Used to get them A LOT as a kid, and performed this "surgery" multiple times. Finally, my mom took me in and just had the roots killed.
