Some repairs you just don't want to do yourself.

Baldwin front door lock quit working. I never use the front door, but my Brother came up to borrow a tool (he lives three doors down from me) and told me that my front door lock was kaput.

Tried to take it apart myself and realized I was getting into unexplored territory. Called the local locksmith, and he said he could be there in about 20 minutes (nice service). Glad I didn't take it apart, myself. Springs and ball bearings everywhere! Broken spring and a really tiny "c" clip. Lubed, adjusted and he thinks good for another 20 years. $85 plus $15 tip to the guy and I'm happy.

It looks like that mechanism can keep time. LOL

That's one complicated lock! I've had a few apart over the years never one like that

Putting a new power switch in my Hafler amp was a lot less daunting than that lock.

I just removed a skin tag myself. Oh sure, I could have gone to a doctor, but that would have cheated me out of a good old fashion blood bath, and my wife shaking her head with that, "God dammit, I could have married a banker....." look on her face.

Gogar 11-25-2013 05:38 PM

Funny! I could put a power switch in that Hafler in 5 minutes, but I've been trying to sand these plaster walls flat for days and days.

Isn't your wife like a doctor or something? ;)

I'm pissed off right now. I just calibrated both ovens in preparation for the T-Day feast. All sensors are within spec but the upper oven holds temp intermittently. It's either a crappy igniter or a bad board and the f@#$ing board is like $400!

Process of elimination.... and the clock is ticking.

If you ever decide to inject the sole of your own foot for plantar faciitis, PM me first.

I did that once.

(Someone else's foot--not mine!)

I cried and laughed then dropped the syringe at about 2cm's in...finally was able to do it but can't really recommend it.

I periodically cut out ingrown toe nails from my big toes, if you go slow and methodically you would be surprised just how much nail you can root out!...the blood isn't as bad but the soreness for the week after sucks...

These are cool. I'd hang onto that one. They're only going one way in value. :D

The only thing I won't DIY is new car tires. Everything else I'll have a go at. not always successfully at first but if you persist you'll get there in the end.

I refuse to pay someone for something I can do myself.

I took the stitches out of my nads a week or so after the vasectomy. After more than a week of the bastard stichers grabing my underwear with every step, and taking my breath away. A hot bath, a pair of tweezers, a finger nail clipper, and voila. Instant relief. Who needs an overpriced doctors bill anyway? ;)

OK, if you were REALLY tough you would have done the vasectomy yer own self!
