We have an 2007 SRT8 Grand Cherokee with some mods - it is my wifes daily driver. It is a total performance vehicle. The only disadvantage with the 300C is it's only rear wheel drive. Turn the traction control off and you can smoke the tires at will just about anything under 45 mph. All the SRT line is pretty d@mn fast.

I don't own one, but if I did, I would have to own a gas station too. Horrendous mpg. Plus its on a 12 year old chassis, not very updated, old technology. Big motor, so what .

Have you been on any of the forum sites? People I've met locally seem to enjoy them. Especially the one with the blower sticking through the hood... ha.

The trans was on its way out right after we bought it. It had 48K on the closk and good service records. I ended up having it rebuilt wiith AMG shift solonoids and clutches, so all good nowc

Like anything else you have to find a 'nice' one with verified service history / and adult ownership to begin with. If buying new, make sure you look into the extended warranty because the SRT line has a very short factory warranty

It is, however a Benz (Mercedes) chassis.. so it's better than your typical new Chebby.

Reason I'm asking is that my daily driver E39 540 is getting a little long in the tooth.

Looking for 4 doors (kids), automatic (wife), performance, decent pricing. Not overly concerned about gas mileage as my drive to work is pretty short. I've always liked the styling on the 300C.

There are several examples available locally that have low mileage and are priced right.

Any other interesting suggestions?

How about a lower mileage replacement 540i? I love those cars

I've thought about a lower mileage one. I really like the 540 and German cars in general, but I think I need a change.

The BMW has been dead reliable, but it's starting to nickel and dime me now. Lots of minor stuff starting to fail....3 window regulators, door lock actuator, door handles, hood and trunk supports, trunk lid actuator, cup holders, cats are failing, various rattles, random engine codes, 3 coolant expansion tanks in 2 years. Starting to leak a bit of oil now as well.

Picked it up 6 years ago with 95,000 km on it for $9K. Full service records, two owner car. Just turned 200,000 km a week or so ago. It's been a good car.....

I was talking to a fellow at a cigar lounge last month about his 300C SRT8. He deals with bullet proof vests and the like and was pretty much a macho macho type of guy.

He claimed that it handled very well, which to him may have meant goes fast in a straight line, I don't know for sure.

He loved his 300C SRT8, and seemed to think it could defeat some basic laws of physics or something.

SRT8 300C is a beast of a machine. Love them immensely especially with headers and an exhaust to help them breathe. The new ones with the 6.4L are a few notches higher than the previous 6.1L.
