2014 Nissan Altima...what a POS!

Drove in a friends new Altima for about a 300 miles drive...noisy, wallows, flinty, incredibly bad vehicle dynamics...surprising a 21st century car is so bad!

I drove one recently. A joyless appliance to be sure. I hate the way the front wheel drive hunts under acceleration. On the upside, its roomy, reasonably comfortable.

Built to a very competitive price, but it shows.
In comparison a toyota camry is twice the vehicle albeit more expensive.

I owned an Altima years ago and it was a great little car. I put 200K plus miles on it without any trouble. The AC in that car was crazy good. Sad to hear they are going downhill.

My wife has a 2012 Altima 3.5 SR coupe. It looks like a copy of the Infinity coupe with a different hood & grill. She wanted a sporty car, and so far at 40K miles we've not had any problems with it other than it's not a car with decent rear seating space, trunk space, etc. But that's what she chose. I've done all of the standard maintenance on it and haven't had anything to complain about. However, some time ago we rented a regular 4 door Altima sedan with the 2.5L to drive to Texas to visit a friend. It was uncomfortable, noisy, had too much road noise from the tires. It got an average of 32 mpg, but was otherwise a real POS. I wouldn't buy one ever.

Have a 2013 here. Have not experienced any of the issues mentioned. Love it for a commuter car. Great gas mileage, roomy, quiet, comfortable. 25k problem free miles. I guess ymmv.

I had a first gen Altima back in the day, i loved that car! I had a '13 Altima coupe a couple weeks ago for a rental. 12k miles.

Total piece of *****.

Rear view mirror shook like I was in a cheap convertible. Driver seat rocked back & forth on its mounts... and... Does ANYBODY enjoy these awful CVT transmissions?

I used to be a big fan of Nissan. Now... Notsomuch!

The only reason you'd buy an Altima is if you can't afford the Maxima. So you're just driving around displaying the fact that your career didn't quite work out as expected.

We had a rental Altima last year (must have been a 2013). It was an appliance, for sure.

One thing that I hated about it was that it seems like Nissan has programmed the shift points/etc to try and keep the engine revs as low as possible, so you'd be driving down a street at ~40 mph or so at only 1100 rpm. I'm sure that's great for fuel mileage, but horrible if you actually need to accelerate since the engine is making 36 ft-lbs (I made that up ) of torque at that point. Any need to accelerate was greeted by hesitation and confusion as the transmission attempts to downshift and revs climb to actually get the car moving. It was actually disconcerting.

For about the same price the Accord is a consistently better car. Quiet, comfortable, etc.

Have yet to understand the appeal of Nissan products. From a design standpoint alone they have to be the worlds leader in short lived design concepts.

Nissan used to make universally great products. I wonder how much influence Renault has on their mass-market products? When I went to the Chicago Auto Show a few years ago, it struck me that all of their floor people were French...

I bought a 93 brand new and loved that car. Manual trans, LSD. It was well build, felt solid and I put 175K miles on it.

I test drove one in 2010ish and was very disappointed at the quality, ride and overall "feel" of the car.

Having had a semi-recent Camry rental, I don't know if I'd rave about it either. Raspy engine, soggy controls, terrible seats with cheap feeling fabric, lots of hard and cheap looking plastic. Sure it was rental spec, but definitely not up to the Toyota standards of 10 years ago.

The only recent rentals that have impressed me were a Kia Soul and several Fords. The Soul is well made and decent to drive for an econobox, and very roomy inside. I've had a Taurus, Explorer, and Escape recently, all were much better cars than I expected.

Does anyone with good credit and some modicum of sight ever willingly buy a Nissan anymore?

This.

I got a 200 as a loaner when my car was in the shop. Holy hell. Hands down worst vehicle I have driven in decades. Looked and felt like it have been built in 1970s Soviet Russia.
