Property taxes nationwide - very interesting

Mapped by county by average $$ and by % of assessed value:

Property taxes: How does your county compare? - CNNMoney.com

Who knew, it seems I live in a county with one of the highest property tax rates in the nation. Yes we have no income tax but seems we make up for it in other ways?

Our property taxes were through the roof (pun not intended) when we lived in the northern VA suburbs of DC.

I'd be interested in seeing education rankings against that map. and a whole host of other overlays.

I live in that dark blue blob in the middle of ohio. Taxes are way high. But I must say, in my city, the services are very good, and the schools are excellent. We are sending our daughter to a public school, and that is saving us $20k a year over living in Seattle.

You can't look at property tax in a vacuum. You have to look at ALL taxes to understand the burden. Then you can fully understand biosurfer1's question and see the answer. If this was PARF I'd spell it out, but you'll have to draw your own conclusions.

Hint: it has to do with spending other people's money.

We did indeed. I never thought I would live in the mid-west again, but my wife had a great opportunity. I was pleasantly surprised by the Columbus area.

Yep, makes Texas seem not so conservative doesn't it. I'd like to move into a nicer house but I can't seem to get over the fact that the taxes are around half the principle and interest cost.

city or county, state service vary by area so that is 1 factor

2nd factor would be amount of sales or income taxes

3rd would be the cost of providing the services levels in #1

last would be corruption, etc.

you really need to think about the 3 factors all together
