I'll keep you posted. early 930 content...

I think the time has come to part ways with our 76 turbo carrera. We spent the whole day moving stuff around in the shop, getting it out of it's tomb , and cleaning it up real good. and taking inventory of what is there.
I forgot how beautiful this car really was, it has been a dusty pile of old car covers, and spare parts stacked on it for over 7 years.
Two weeks after buying it, my son was born, and my life changed forever.
We just checked the fluids, spun the motor by hand, the with the starter, watched oil pressure build. I then checked both fuel pumps, only the front pump runs, but sounds good. I jumpered the relay, then went back and moved the airflow plate, and sure as shat , the injectors squealed.
We are draining out the 7.5 year old gas, and going to see if we can make some smoke in a little bit.
This is sort of exciting. kind of like the video where gunnar racing lights the 917 after years of storage.

Far, far too beautiful to be hidden away entombed in dust. Wake it up and take us along for the ride!!!!

I wont drive it, It has several broken head studs, I could hear them leaking the last time I drove it 7 years ago, There are at least 4 . I just wanted to verify that it was not locked up, still cranked, and I think its even gonna fire. .... Gas is drained, I'm anxious ......

Shaun @ Tru6 12-01-2013 03:45 PM

Fred, do you have the original tail for it?

look 171 12-01-2013 03:47 PM

At least you still have the red 930, right? When my kid came that was the last of that thing too. I drive it no more then 200-300 miles a years now. It was driven a little more (15000 miles) before the kid came. It does see day light 5-6 times a year. I am sure my waste gate is rusted as hell and it makes a whole lotta of smoke when she cranks over. Oh, she's an 88 cab turbo.

fastfredracing 12-01-2013 03:55 PM

Fresh fuel, put the relays back in, one twist of the key, and it sputtered, I think it's going to fire right up!!!!!

Wholly cow. 7.5 years. It took a few primes of the fuel pump, but it shot right to life. I'll post up a quick video shortly. I don't wanna run it too long, and risk damaging anything. I did nothing to store it when I parked it. Shut off the key, disconnected the battery, and there it sat.
I'm elated to know that it is not locked up, and that the fuel system did not gum up, I was 100% sure it would have been.

She needs to be in a southern garage. (was that subtle enough?)

I believe I have an original tail for it .Came on a 3.0 Carrera I had years ago I removed it because I thought the targa looked better without it.At the time I also thought it was aftermarket but after reading the early tail thread I think it,s oem. Rubber lip and course fiberglass over steel frame. haven,t looked for a part number . For sale if you would be interested . PM me. Can ship from 48060 Mi.

Fred as you are probably well aware these are now the car du jour and are pulling
huge money
I have a good one (original paint, super shape 40k miles) in my shop now that
was bought for just shy of 6 figures needing a motor ( Broken studs)
You're a good guy so if you're thinking about fixing and selling do your homework

Took me a while to figure out my you tube account. Forgive me for being so dorky, This was at about 8:00 pm, I started working this morning around 6. I am half exhausted, and had been inhaling turbo heater, and stale gasoling fumes for 4 hours at this point of the day.

I'm totally in the doghouse too. I told her I would be home by 11:00 am, and walked through the door tonight at 10:30.
