Porsche stored for the season - Head Count

As is my tradition, I put my Porsche to bed for the season.

Typically by December 1st, and that was this past Sunday.

Who else is done for the year?

Tell me about your last run, was it memorable?

Last Friday the last run, I drove out to the country with a friend, he went on a sailplane/guider ride. Then we had some food at a country bar to warm up, folks were real friendly too.

My last use on Sunday was to put Seafoam in the gas and fill up, then wash off my car, underside and wheel wells being the areas of focus.

Sad day, but at least I have one less thing to be messing with for a while.

Hell no, mine is getting winter tires installed today.:)

You are depressing the crap out of me. I put my car in the garage 2 weeks ago. Roads have been salted at least 2 times already. I just moved to Ohio from Seattle. You can pretty much drive a P-car all year round in Seattle :(

cboosh 12-02-2013 07:32 AM

Yep, roads here in Maine are heavily salted. Salt came out about a week ago, so she sleeps until spring.

I hate winter.

livi 12-02-2013 07:35 AM

Over a month ago in this Arctic area.. :(

Mine is undergoing an engine rebuild. As soon as a the correct rod bolts show up the re-assembly will commence. With some luck in a few weeks it will be running. If the roads are clear of frozen crap and salt I will be driving it some. We have an autocross 12 months of the year. The car has a great heater but it is not insured as a daily driver. It is just a toy.

It never goes too long without some miles.

Look on the bight side. Come April, we all get to rediscover how great a Porsche is again. Every year.

I don't drive a lot, work out of my house.

I hadn't realized they salted the roads here, been dry for quite a while.

Since it was dry roads with a slight salt dusting mostly worn off I felt safe driving the one time out, and then putting about 20 quarters in the slot at the self-service car wash.

I was surprised by the amount of small gravel gushing out of the accordion bumper bellows. Guess I better cut down on my dirt/gravel road driving.

In the spring it's far less predictable when I take the car out. I wait for a heavy rain to wash the salt off the roads, maybe even one or two heavy rains.

A month ago. Store it at my rental house a hundred miles away in the Seattle area. House has a detached 3 car garage in addition to the 2 car attached. Lease gives me one of the 3 bays for my use. I can visit monthly in the winter and take it out for a drive as almost no or salt over there.

Last drive - Spent the night with friends at a Snowmobile club party. Got the plaque for "Member of the Year". Was able to put it in my friends garage that night and didn't even put the top on. Met other friends for breakfast the next day and hooked a ride home.

Miss it already, but have the 190 SL here for the rare sunny day with clear roads...

Use mine all year round, but off road now for rebuild.

She's sleeping now, safe under a blankie with the Battery Tender feeding her intravenously.

I'll awake her out of this induced coma if it is warm enough during the course of the winter, as long as the roads do not have salt residue on them. Then it is once again time for quiet winter slumber.

mattdavis11 12-02-2013 09:11 AM

3 weeks ago. It's just sitting at my brothers' place, uncovered, out in the elements. I'm seriously considering taking the mile drive to swap it out with the landcrusier. The heater works better and it's getting cold.

I have not moved mine in a month or so.... but the top is down just in case the weather and appropriate time present themselves simultaneously!

masraum 12-02-2013 09:46 AM

I don't have to worry about it here, but if you don't want to drive a 911 in the winter, it seems like a 944 would make a pretty good winter beater.

sck007 12-02-2013 10:14 AM

This is the perfect driving season for us....after snoozing thru the summer heat!

Outback Porsche 12-02-2013 10:57 AM

My AC is crap and she turns into a sweat box in the summer. I haven't put her on a road for a month. Hopefully late Feb we can be friends again.

pete3799 12-02-2013 11:00 AM

Been put up for 3 weeks now.
Last trip was just into town to fill the tank and back to the garage.

gshase 12-02-2013 11:38 AM

Heck no, drove it today and ran the AC.

Jim Richards 12-02-2013 12:28 PM

Mine gets used less frequently.
