Ok.
So your eyes are likely going south, like mine. Find a friend that has a decent red dot sight, and shoot with both eyes open. Not for nothing, it will be fun. It changed my perspective, particularly about EBRs. |
The video in the OP is kind of biased despite the guy's "gentle grandfather" demeanor. A double barrel shotgun? Com'on. How about a 7 shot pump or a semi-auto 12 gauge? With a side saddle for more rounds?
An intruder isn't going to stand still in the dark, and whether you have a shotgun or an AR, it probably won't be anything like what's being put out there by the guy. An 18" shotgun with 5 rounds will do just fine for HD with the right ammo. They are reliable, cheaper than an AR and unless you spend a lot of time with an AR, the shotgun will be more simple to use in a hot situation. |
You could always buy an AR and add wood furniture. -J

How so? Have you shot a semi-auto 12 gauge before? |

How much does it weigh compared to magpul furniture? |
When I made that statement I had in mind the AR without a loaded mag in the mag well. But who knows. Maybe some guys store an AR bedside with a loaded 30 round mag in the mag well. In which case it's...charge handle and go. Or better yet an AR already chambered, and it's just a flip of a safety away from 30 hot rounds.
I don't have an AR beds side with a loaded 30 round mag in the mag well. That's a little over the top for me. So my perspective was different from your perspective. A shotgun with a full tube would be about the same as a load mag in the mag well I suppose...pump it or pull the charge handle. Same difference...but grandpa sure made the SXS double barrel seem inadequate and equating that to all shotguns. Quote:

That said I think mini 14's are only slightly less ugly than any random AK. Crappy wood is possibly worse looking than plastic. IMO fark the general public. They are pussies that are giving away our rights faster than we got them and their opinion means nothing. As a last point the .357 lever gun (or 30.30 or .35) is a neat idea too. |
Oh and Hickock045 is the man. Fantastic youtube vids from that guy.

Where the heck do you guys live, Syria?
I can't imagine a scenario that would require a tactical rifle in the home. Spraying .30/.223 bullets in an urban environment does not sound like a good idea. And even if you were justified in firing, I could imagine civil lawyers (and potentially prosecutors) having a field day with your use of an 'assault' weapon. Even in a more rural environment, I would rather have a scoped hunting rifle. My primary home defense weapon is Sig 226 .40. I just can't see a scenario that would require more than 2 magazines full of .40 to deal with. I've got a Norinco MAK-90, and enough 7.62x39 to choke an elephant. But the day I feel I need that to defend my home is the day I move. |

Real World .223 Testing |
wow JUST WOW some of you clowns DONT GIT IT! and a vast majority of YOU live in cookie cutter homes within 10 feet of yer neighbors.
I LIVE IN A WOOD FRAME T-111 with STUCCO HOME! on a 1.5 acre parcel, and the terminal ballistics of just about any round mentioned here will damn near go thru anything including yer walls and yer neighbors walls. DO YOU REALIZE what a "poodle shooter" .223 does to an 8x8x16 BLOCK? DO YOU REALIZE what a ".308" anything does to an 8x8x16 BLOCK? a slugged 12 ga is an easy 100yards. buckshot a little less. a lousy pissant .22 is a good 1.5 miles. ask yerself why sometimes when ya nail a deer at say 200yds with a .308 168gr BTHP and the sucker still keeps running for miles? the damn round is going so fast unless it hits vitals or bone it keeps on going! now place yerself in a bad guy in yer home situation where YOU and I will be POOING LIL DEBBIES and TWINKIES SIDEWAYS.......................are ya really going to be thinking of a "SAFE BACK DROP?" the SMARTEST damn thing you can do in yer homes especially if yer in a "cookie cutter" home 10 ft away from yer neighbor is figure "what ifs" and figure out yer BACKDROP and where yer "KILL ZONE" is going to be when defending life liberty and the pusuit of happiness along with YO AZZ and YER FAMLIES AZZ! bad guy in my house............i hear noise, i grab HK 9MM USPC with UTL light and open my bedroom door, ANYONE in my living room kitchen hallway leading from front door will be VAPORIZED! my backdrop is my steel/glass front door and my neighbors house is NOT THE BACKDROP! i'll REPEAT THAT.............MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE IS NOT THE BACKDROP! why did cops steer away from .357's and .44 mags??? hmmmm maybe has something to do with round able to penetrate ENGINE BLOCKS! let alone yer home and yer neighbors. 380 9mm .38 .40/.45 all good home defense. 12 gauge with buck or bird shot will deter ANYBODY! presently i have alot of open dez around me, but not for long with encroachment moving my way. if ya live in a redbrick home(they are solid) rounds will usually(depending on round) smoosh themselves and scrub speed and be defeated. think of it this way................a federal .308 168gr BTHP will KILL YOU at 1000-1200YDS! no fuss no muss! and another analogy..............theres a LAWYER RIDING/ATTACHED to EVERY ROUND YOU FIRE! and he AINT YER LAWYER! |
U BOYZ are one bunch of evil bastids....talking about the devils tools...they have no place in a forward looking progressive society. This obssesive mania for the tools of mayhem borders on being a mental derangement, and as such the state should arrange for a reeducation program for the lot of you.
